See People popping in on time. Thank you for that.
So I always like to ask some of the early People to make sure if you can hear me and see me OK. If you want to do a little shout out to.
Just post in the chat box if you can hear and see me.
I can get a couple of you to do that.

Hi I can see you
Heard and feet and so I like to give a uh a moment or 2 to let People pop in here and give those who registered a chance to get in so glad to have you. I love look too. Oh, I don't have to see I hope this isn't a little. I have my peace. Fork, like that. I got from the discord recruiter up here and I thought I'd hang it for this session.
So I think I hope that's why I also have my IP score mug I wanted to represent.
So we'll give somebody's asking if there too late. Note not too late. I like to hold out for a moment to give People a chance check in so you are if you are a person who is enora returning peace core volunteer and are interested in learning about Jackson and the cover. Dell relationship with the peace core. You are in the right place so get started here, I looked before.
We started to see where everybody worked was located and I have here. Some People from 10s in the Botswana Korea, Uganda, Ethiopia, Panama, Sierra Leone, Morocco, China, Molly, Macedonia, Paraguay, so I don't know if that's where a lot of you just happen to be living. Or maybe you're currently serving and there's a ton of us who registered as well so maybe you served another location.
So with feel free to to represent where you've been so.

I heard you in the beginning, but it seems to be frozen now. It might just be my connection though...
Um Oh somebody said it was frozen, but, hopefully, hopefully that means it will just unfreeze of connections or bad so alright well? Why don't I get started there's a good chunk of you here now I will say let me see you well. My name is Melissa McGinnis. So I'm the assistant director of admissions here at the Jackson Institute for global affairs that Yale University and I'm actually pretty new.
Last December, so I'm about what is that about 8 months so it's been fun and I'm learning a lot and learning the relationship with the peace core and the cover to Fellows is one of those things that I have to take him. On some of you may or may not be aware that the Jackson Institute has been approved by the board of trustees to become a professional school. So we haven't been we are became that Jackson Institute. About 10 years ago, or so after a large donation.
From the Jackson family and it's just another iteration excuse me of the 40 year. IR program here at Yale and it's you know with that news that spend quite a ride and there's been a lot of change in a lot of growth and just trying to keep up so it's been a lot of fun. So I actually did end up meeting with the Coverdale representative or a regional coordinator and also the regional recruiter some of these.
People you probably know I know that the peace core network is pretty tight. So it's been really helpful talking with them to learn like you know what? Maybe perspective applicants want to know and learn how.
You know how our relationship works with the covered Ellen with the L Jackson, so I think I'm going to do this in reverse. I think I'm going to talk about the cover Dell in the peace core 1st and sort of give that overview since maybe that's something most of you wanna know and then we can touch on sort of a general overview of El Jackson because one of the things that I learned and I will keep my eyes on the questions here. So I'll probably be getting to a bunch of things, so I might hold off a little bit.

RPCV Uganda 2016-2018. Home one year this month.
And I always see some People like getting ready. Hey, you gone, the great sorry. I probably can't get to post all of these but I will do and it can so anyway, I just wanted to.
To sort of share that what I've learned from working with the peace core representatives is that?
All of the partner schools handle their relationship with the peace core in the covered up very differently, and there's not a one size fits all on how it's handled and played out and have it work. So it doesn't make it easy for all of you were trying to pick the right program. But that's why it's good to have things like this so you can kind of figure out you know what it is, you're looking for and what you want to get out of the program and or the cover down.
So I'm here to give you a little bit of information because I think there's not a lot on the website. One disclaimer to that I've notice is our partner website on the peace core web page is woefully out of date. It's a few years old. So I'll be updating that hopefully in the next couple weeks or so, so keep that in mind so.
Don't quote that there are some changes to be made. But if if you need some clarification. This next hour as we go forward. Feel free to ask.
But hopefully I'll address most of those things I might have some notes here is again. Still, pretty new about all of the The Coverdale stuff, but 1st and foremost. I want to say that a program like Flowers, loves peace core. The returning Peace Corps. Volunteers are right up our alley with being a program in global affairs with a commitment to the global good and international relations. So we always have had a great relationship with Peace Core Fellows and.
Love having them in our program and their your voices are very important to be heard in the classroom and a program like Jackson, so that's something that is. I want to reiterate too. And as far this last year. We had the highest number of peace. Core applicants that we've ever had so that was exciting. It makes it a little bit more competitive for all of you since we probably well. We probably could have a class of all peace cripple in tears. It's
Probably not the best way to go and we're looking for a diversity of placements and locations. And all sorts of things. But we are also in rolling our highest number of peace. Court volunteers as well. I think we have 7 coming in and we have some from last year as well. So you can see some of those on our BIOS on her website. If you haven't seen those already so we are enrolling 7 but we only award 1:00 to 2:00 covered else so we did award to this year. So what will likely do is probably pushed out an article or a newsletter or something and then in the.
Coming weeks once they get here and settled so yeah, so we're really excited and we love that relationship with the peace core.
So something to keep in mind is.
Again, the difference is that each program how they handle it have a handle the application. So we don't offer a special fee waiver for People who are applying from the peace peace core because we actually offer a fee waiver for all applicants who apply by December 1st. So our final deadline is January 2nd. But Jackson, allows automatic reverse or anybody applying by December, 1st so keep that in mind, if you'd like to be considered.
For a fee waiver piece of war or not so December 1st. It's it's automatic that were part of the grad. School currently until we become that professional school. So we have to adhere by their rules and they only allow for fee waivers for.
US citizens and up until I think the deadline is a little bit earlier in November, so but you as a Jackson applicant would get the December 1st deadline fee waiver so keep that in mind, so the benefit for everyone.
Again, the website the Coverdale website is a little bit out of date on this our website does affirm that we do actually have an additional requirement for People who are applying for the covered up so you can apply as a peace core volunteer and not necessarily be interested in the covered oka. The Coverdale does have requirements that comes with it mainly the 150 hour internship requirement that you must complete.
Over the course of the Masters program so that's sometimes People don't want to have to do that. And it's focused on a underserved us communities, so that's something very specific and you know here at Jackson being a global affairs very IR heavy program. We are looking at wanting to make sure that that still a component for everybody interested in the program so we do have one local organization in particular, called iris.
You see I was forget what it's exactly called the integrated refugee and immigrant services so that's a local organization that a lot of our cover dolls have worked with throughout the semester to get in some of their hours.
And to meet the Coverdale requirement, so yes, so that's that's one component. So you can apply as a peace core and we love that and you don't have to apply for the Coverdell. If you do apply for the Coverdale. There's an additional requirement and I will find it on our website. Bookmark some of these things so I could give you links on our tuition page. It has a little blurb about the cover Dell and I am.

Eastern and awake now and that is what explains the additional 500 word memo that we do require we want to update that a little bit, too, so keep this in mind, too. If you're going to be applying this year. Some might not make it into the application. But it would be ideal if you consider this when you're writing your covered up memo.
A little bit more practically about how you intend to fulfill your internship requirement and where if you have other ideas, so that's a component that we'd love to hear from you because we take you know all of that into consideration when making are covered. All fellow awards. So just keep that in mind when we whittle down and we have all these peace Core Fellows and then then we have all of the covered else and then we only award 1:00 or 2:00, so we need to.
Be pretty specific about that, so anything you can tell us in that regard would be really, really helpful when you're applying?
And one other thing that's that's very big a big question that a lot of People have that the way we the process here at Jackson is we don't make our cover Dell awards until after enrollment so for Yale Jacks. Then you apply and you we know you're covered Ellen again. We know your peace core and so that's that's a great thing in and of itself.
So what happens then is you know your financial aid award usually within if not immediately within 24 to 48 hours of your admissions decision. So we actually do offer very generous financial aid. Hirail Jackson, which is pretty surprising. A lot of People aren't aware of that. We provide 100% tuition at mineral. Let me rephrase that we provide some form of tuition or statement to 100% of People who ask for it.
So that an art ears are lowest tier is half tuition, so anybody who asks for financial assistance gets at least half tuition, so that everyone that's not peace core that's not covered Oh that's
Everyone so we already have a very generous financial aid package so how we do that here is we will award financial aid based on.
Merritt, but that we don't determine that till after the decisions are made and again. It is usually within 24 to 48 hours that you find that out, and then you have decisions to go out in the middle of March and then you have until April. 5th May 1st. I think is the date to decide whether or not. You want to enroll and you'll have your financial aid package early on here at Jackson. You won't know if you're going to be awarded the cover Dell until after that, so we will do that sometime over the summer and.
You'll know before unrolling and so keep that in mind. I think a lot of other schools and I'm learning that a lot of other schools actually do or the cover nails along with the admissions decisions and that is often because that might be some of the only financial aid that they do award so for us, we offer so much financial aid as it is. It's really just the naming convention of being awarded the cover down.
And going forward again we've had a lot of changes Jackson and it's been fast moving so the official launch of becoming a school will be around 2022 is what we're shooting for and something that we want to do is we do just so you know at Yale. I think it's the Fiesta School, forestry in the school of public health, also have covered all fellows and we do joint degrees with those programs as well so that's something that keep in mind, but I think we're going to try to.
Put together some networking. I want to be in touch with some colleagues and see if going forward. We can do a little bit more networking across schools and across disciplines here among the piece for volunteers and then we're close to New York City. So I know that there's been events down there and and they do things like that. 'cause I attended one this last winter. So we're in a nice place and to keep that tight piece work connection.
That pretty much covers how we handle the Coverdale process as a you know for those applying for for the cover Dell as a peace core volunteer so why don't? I stop there for a moment and see if you have any specific questions about that otherwise I can dive in and give you a little bit more background about the L Jackson itself and the global affairs program in the Masters program, one thing to keep in mind.
And if you are are logged on and you are interested in the AMA S, which is our one year Masters program.
We do not offer financial aid for the MAF so they're currently not funded so you couldn't be eligible for the cover Dell.
If you are applying to the one year. MA *** which has a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience so keep that in mind, too. If that's where some of you might fall in so let me take a quick peek I might need my glasses for this to see if there are any questions out there that I'm I've not seen an we can address some of those, and then maybe I can.
I cannot go on an answer.

Is the internship requirement meant to be fulfilled at least partially during the academic year, or can we complete internship hours during the summer outside New Haven?
Oh, some People got disconnected. If anybody if you're still hearing me and if any of you do have trouble our website will have the archive link for this so you will be able to watch it again if need be so that is a possibility so do keep that in mind, alright good, I have a question alright let's see Carolina asking.
Is the internship requirement meant to be fulfilled? At least partially during the academic year or can we complete internship hours during the summer outside new even that is a great great question. It's a little bit of a tricky question.
Iris is a really good example where that could work.
But depending on the internship that you want to do so, if you wanted to do something else.
The Turkey, part here at Jackson is because we're global affairs and really you should be doing your internship and it very global IR program, while the Coverdale requirement is AUS underserved community.
It may not gel perfectly so yes, you could do a summer internship that counts as both or added on and that's totally fine. As long as you know? Our curve services would have proved that we had someone who did do the work at iris for the summer. I think a few years ago. We had a family and he wasn't traveling and and so it worked out perfectly for him a lot of People, though in our program do you wanna?

Type Offen go into all sorts of places. Let me while it's on my mind. Let me send you that link. We have a section of our website that gives sample first jobs and the summer experience and.
Add links do you have it but yeah, so it is definitely possible the nice thing about an organization like iris, though?
Is you can they have a lot of meats you're working with refugee families and so even though it's local that it's still it's us based it is. It is very tight to global affairs. So it's it's a very symbiotic relationship are covered all last year. I think put in a few hours here there. There's different ways. You can serve with iris. Actually, I think I have that, like to let me copy.

That for you guys, I believe last years cover. Dow ended up being assigned to a family and she helped them with their integration. I think it was an Afghan family that she was working with an you know it might be as simple as providing resources information, helping them know about you know the grocery stores and schools and.
Paperwork and all sorts of things like that, so it's it's really unique opportunity right here. That's local.
Wilson Maguwah
12:20:53 PM
Would you consider an internship with the United Nations?
So I I hope Carolina answers your question if it can be aligned and be global and to us at the same time, then it is definitely possible to do that. But you can manage it over the course of two years to do. The 150 hours. I think it's very reasonable. You need to track those hours and make sure you complete them just that's a coverdale requirement and I think I think I see another question about.
Would we consider an internship with the UN so I Jackson would? Absolutely I might want to write that question down 'cause. Will the peace core so did they consider that I don't know that they'd consider that a US underserved community. So my gut is saying now but I could find that out for you one.
Quick thing I wanted to mention for those of you, especially for those of you who are stateside and not leaving or yet. Or maybe you're coming back, I will be at the Peace Court Fair. There's a fair on September 9th down in DC. I'm assuming if you're in the circuit. You know about it. So we will be there, so I'm going to take some of these notes down and try to find things out. And if you see me there. Feel free to ask and let me while I have.
Or I forget when I go ahead and give you my email address toosoiftheresanythingthatidontanswerandofcourseofthiswebandareyoucanfeelfreetoemailmeandifidontstilldontknowtheanswericanfindoutforyousomynameismelissamcginnisandmyemailisthesamesomelissamelissa.mcginnismcginnisandthats@yale.edu so feel free to, if I don't answer a question.
During this weapon are to drop me a line and I can try and find that out for you.
Alright let's see any other questions here, OK, so no new specific questions about cover Dell.
So why don't I give you a brief overview of Jackson. I don't know I'm assuming you guys might be familiar with us, which is why you're here. Or maybe you know, nothing about us, which is why you were here. Maybe you're familiar with covered Ellen trying to learn about all of the different programs. But so I'll give you a brief overview about Jackson sort of. But you know, we have? What are what we believe are unique things unique structure is?
1st and foremost, I think it's are size. So we are cohort RR 2 remain cold work is only about 35 students, so that's compute no pun intended. We really like the intimacy and the community nature that that brings it really adds a unique atmosphere. In addition to that. We only have a very, very flexible curriculum, so we only have.
3 required courses we have a stats class and he claimed class in a history class and two of those were taken in your first semester and one in the second semester and then the rest of your courses can be taken anywhere at Yale. So not just inside of Jackson, but anywhere at any of the other professional schools, so we do have joint degree opportunities like a mention with school forestry and public health and also SOM and the law school sorry.
So the management is the business full and so that's definitely a possibility, but the academic freedom is something that's very attractive to a lot of people. Of course, we love you to take most of your classes here at Jackson and if you end up on the Yale Course Guide G LVL for global is how you can find the Jackson classes and they are taught by faculty members who are here at Jackson, who might have joint appointments at other departments and they're also taught by our senior.
Fellows, which, if you're familiar with those they are practitioners, who are Top in their fields their ambassadors. We have former presidential candidates. We have People from all over and who are bringing their practical global experience to the classroom.
And they're here for a year or 2 or 3 years and they're teaching classes and they are available to mentor students and you can be teaching assistants or teaching fellows or course assistance with them and potentially subsidized your tuition stipend if you don't get full tuition stipend, which a lot of People do so. That's something that really enhances the balance of the academic theoretical sign.
With the the practical side, so you can get tap into both of those things by the courses that you choose and the faculty members that you choose to take them with so it's really that has been something that our students in our alums. Find a value and the nice thing is because of the tight net. Jackson community even if you take a number of your classes at some of the other schools here at Yale you still.
Stay really connected you can still stay very connected to the Jackson community. Now we're currently located in this beautiful old Victorian home and there's a lounge just down the Hall and the coffee machine is just down the Hall and it's across the Hall from our World Fellows, which are rising people in their fields and they're here for the fall semester and you just have a lot of access to Top bull in their fields in global affairs and policy and international relations.
And even in my my mind has been blown about the types of People. I've had interactions with and how they care about the students and how they just have informal conversations you know all of you have.
No bad choices really when it comes to grad schools, so schools. The public and international affairs. Love peace for Fellows and so obviously that means there are no bad choices. But it's going to be up to you to choose what kind of community. You want to be involved with, we are located in New Haven. CT Beautiful, New England. It's a It's a city but it's small and manageable. I'm not a city person, then I find it very pastoral if you will and lots of.
Green around and it's been a lovely experience, so it's a little humid today Unfortunately but.
So it's a great location or not, that far from New York City. Where on that corridor to Boston store N and I get to DC very often equip trick on the trip on the Amtrak train so there's a lot of opportunity they do a cursor since does a annual trip to networking trip to DC each October and they set up alumni and I think other organizations and the whole class goes down on a bus.
And season hotel, then they if they do a lot of networking during that trip so there's lots of opportunities like that to do things like that, so let's see I mentioned size location. Our core class something to add on to the course requirements. I think you know one.
But you'll see if you've looked at our information that most of our students have 3:00 to 5:00 years of work experience prior to coming to Jackson.
And it usually lines up perfectly with peace core volunteers like you got your 2 years of service and it it. It usually works out really well.
But part of that is because we are professional program so we, we want People to be coming here and too. It's not just about what we can teach you but it's about what you contribute to the classroom. So we see that it's very, very important as well, and on Top of that, like I mentioned the academic freedom to be able to come and take classes across Yale language classes all.
All the range of classes are thousands of classes available to you and so unless you have a really good idea of what it is, you want to do and focus on that could be an overwhelming prospekt when we have staff here. DGS and director of Student Affairs, who meet 1 on one with everyone when they get here and there's matrices available on the website but they work with you 1 on one to figure out what it is, you want to get out of this program and provide resources and direction on to wear it.
Pull from so that all happens during orientation, which is next week. So we don't leave you to fend for yourselves. But it still is a really good idea to come into the program, having a really good grasp on what it is, you want to get out of it and which kinds of classes or area studies. You might want to participate in and you should probably tell us that in your application. You don't need to tell us exactly which courses you want to take.
It doesn't need to be that specific but making sure you explain your career trajectory to us and how the classes. You want to choose at Yale and that Jackson fit into that, so that's something to keep in mind is a tip for you know what we're looking for when you apply.
Let's see other any other questions before he keep talking not at the moment, so keep going. A little bit. Let me clarify the funding a little bit more. I think I dove right in and was talking about the covered Ellen and I don't want to want it to get lost that we offer very good funding here at Yale Jackson. We like I mentioned we currently offer something to everyone who asks for it our admissions process.
Is it? We don't worry about the financial aid until after admissions decisions are made and then we make the decisions based on sort of merit, so we will look at you know work experience and GPA is Jerry's we don't have minimums for any of those things. The only thing we have a minimum forest hopeful for international students, but otherwise we have no minimum requirements on a lot of that hard requirements.
So, but we do take them into account when the time comes to todo are merit based on financial aid and currently we have 3 different tiers. We have half tuition. So the minimum. You would be awarded and less you're externally funded would be half tuition. We would also also offer full tuition or full tuition annual stipend and I think more than half the class got a full tuition and full Skype and so that's something to to keep in mind that.
That's rare there, some stupid you know, not all schools can fund their Masters program or hope is that with the official launch of becoming a school that that will mean more resources and maybe we could fully fund. Everyone right out of the gate going forward. But right now. Those are the tears that we offer so keep that in mind, and then so don't don't let any of that detur you because, like I mentioned you can do teaching fellows and.
Be a teaching fellow of course, assistant and not only are you making money when you're doing that in the course of the semester, but you are also networking with those faculty or those senior Fellows and I've heard the stories of a lum who have worked as a teaching fellow with the senior fellow and ended up getting their post graduate job with the senior fellow so there's a lot of great opportunities, I think I see some.

Does the Jackson Institue expect prospective students to have a quantitative reasoning/ applied economic experience?
Movement in the question box so let me check this out. Fernando is asking if we expect students have a quantitative reasoning applied. Yes, we actually do yes and now I should say we do expect you to have some sort of quantitative experience before enrolling in Jackson. So we don't have any hard and fast requirements or prerequisites.
But having had maybe econstats algebra calculus any of those basic types types of horses, having had some experience in those areas academically or on your professional work.
Definitely will strengthen your application, but it is not required. Those students who are admitted to our program. We will over the summer send information strongly strongly recommending that you take a refresher E con class before enrolling so that is one way that we recommend that so you're not behind before you get started so if you haven't had so we've admitted you without some of that experience.
We recommend that you do, do something before, but it is not a requirement.

Is it possible to participate in the Teaching Fellows Program at Jackson if selected as a Coverdell Fellow?
Is it Carolinas asking is it possible to participate in the teaching fellows program at Jackson if selected is covered with Phillip Absolutely. Absolutely absolutely anyone can participate in the Teaching Fellows. You there's an application process and over the summer, even before you arrive you will. I think the registrar or somebody in student affairs actually because it's not just Jackson fact, they might be faculty SOM or the last.
Who won teaching fellows and so that information will be pushed out to you and you can apply for those you know, we let Jackson students get first dibs. I believe 2R. Jackson faculty and Senior Fellows. So absolutely you can do that. There's no restrictions there about you know if you're fully funded. You know, and still want to be a teaching Phone. It's not a problem. You know absolutely it's a great experience to have.
Piper O'Keefe
12:35:40 PM
For the language requirement, is it recommended that we continue studying a language that we have studied previously, or is there flexibility for us to start learning a new language instead?
Oh, I answered your question already but it's good to clarify that even more. I think alright. Let's see Peter is asking about the language requirement Piper. I'm sorry. Piper is it recommended that we continue studying language that we said previously or is their flexibility for a Start learning a new language instead. So I know that's an either or but the answer is yes. We do have a language requirement here at Jackson that you have to fulfill before.
Graduation and there will be. I think testing can happen, either over the summer or soon after you arrive your proficiency testing, to see if you do wave out of the requirement.
But even if you wave out of the requirement, you can still pursue a language and some People do the amount the robustness of the out of the language offerings here yell is has also been mind blowing to me, so I think there are People who definitely come here to learn any language or continue on one they already have.
The tricky part I think you if you're learning, a new one, I think.
I'm trying to remember I think you can only take 2A semester and 4 total.
I'm afraid to have you quote me on that. But there are some limitations. You can't even though there's academic freedom. You can't take all of your electives as language is the tricky part about languages and you'll find this probably anywhere. I know my previous jobs. Same idea, a lot of the language. Most of language courses are taught at the undergraduate level and so their schedules are a little bit different than the grad school for schedules. So it made me like every morning or every afternoon like 5 days a week.
Language labs and all of that, so sometimes you can find it conflicting a little bit with maybe other Graduate School related things like maybe 4:30 lectures, where public thinkers come in give talks and Whatnot. You know, maybe there would be some conflicts and things there so it's just something to keep in mind, but it's absolutely possible to take a language for either of those reasons, one that we require you to or the other because you want to do it is.
For your long-term career goals.

Is it possible to participate in the Kerry Initiative at Jackson if selected as a Coverdell Fellow?
Let's see another question about Carrie initiative is it possible posted participate in the Carrie Initiative, a Jackson as a covered awful.
There are I'm not aware of any restrictions as a covered out fellow so anything that any other grad student here has access to would absolutely have access to as a Coverdale Fellow. I don't know if I said that grammatically correct but just to emphasize that there may be another schools. There's reason. Other universities and Colleges. Maybe there's some restrictions. But here you're you're fully integrated.
You know, and in some ways, I have, I've heard some People say that maybe we don't make as huge of a deal about the Coverdale follows because it's all sort of part of the same experience and that's why we want to sort of.
You know, maybe do some networking and I think we're going to write our first article this fall about our highlighting our Fishers covered else. So we're looking for ways to enhance that but otherwise there's no restrictions. You have you know you can participate, and apply for being a carry fellow or being a teaching fellow or you know doing any of those kinds of things. I'm sorry. I'm like stammering a little bit, but I just want to emphasize that but you can absolutely.
Participate in things here at the University in the AHL. You might actually have more things to your advantage because you have your your peace core network network and whatever opportunities they may provide as well so.
And if we can somehow work with the other.

Similar to the last question - Does Jackson have a FLAS program? Is it possible to participate in Fullbright or Boren while matriculated?
The most schools at Yale and make those connections. I think there might be 3 others. If I remember correctly like one or 2 FPS and one or 2 at public health so you know, there may be more opportunities, even being part of that community so yes, let's see.
Scrolling is Jackson have an FLAS program and is it possible to purchase ipat in Fulbright or boron wall matriculate. Eed the ladder. I been in this career for so long, not at Jackson. But I'm trying to remember what the FLAS is a horn line. Foreign Language Area Studies program. Yes, that's what you mean by having similar to the last program.
I if if Heather if you're referring to.
Doing a concentration in foreign language, I think that's a possibility again. It would be. I think there's limitations on how many language classes. You can take so that's something to keep in mind, and the I know a lot of our students. Do Fulbright Anborn. They either come from there or go to their I'm might have to look into that.
To see if they can do it while matriculate eed. I think the more and more likely to but I don't know about Fulbright. I feel like that done before after.
I would have there, you would have to, if you wanna pay me later on that to confirm that I would probably reach out to our crew development office. They would probably know that better working with the enrolled students. I'm not finding anything quickly here. So I don't want to to waste too much time down about last 15 minutes. So I wanna make sure much questions answered. I don't wanna spend that I'm just poking around looking for answers, though.
Feel free to to ping me if you need more information on the the boring and the Fulbright. They don't know that answer off the Top of my head.
I'm sorry, let's see we talk about size location, academic freedom language. The summer experience I didn't mention that it, I mean. I hinted to it, and I think most of you know this that. A lot of programs like ours. And we do is well have a summer internship with requirement, which we call the summer experience and it's I think 8 to 12 weeks. I think it is an People go to all sorts of amazing.
Places to fulfill that required internship and I sent you the link for that a little bit before and our career development office works 1 on one with you they'll start meeting with you right away to figure out what it is, you want to do not just fear job, but also for your summer internship.
And so they start that right away and and you can bring experience with you if you know where you want to work and you have Contacts great that's great. They love that is then they don't have to find the jobs for everybody, but they will work one on one with you to find your required summer experience. And if you see our website and some of our videos on the website and pictures. They are working some pretty cool places. So let me give you that way. I gave you the job after jobs like that just to make it a little bit.
Easier there is a graduate summer link and.
Here's the student experiences be sure to scroll to the bottom of this link because it goes back for a few years. You don't have to just see the most recent?

Only go there summer experiences.
Yeah, I think we go by looks like we go back to the summer 2012. All the way to this summer, so we try to keep that updated and the current development office also I believe Tris is starting to try to keep up on some five year.
Trajectory assume you can see where People are in 5 years. Sometimes it's not that first job. The first job might not be your more often than not is not like you're perfect be all end all job and it's a great stepping stone going and moving in that Courage Directory so.
Ah let's see I mentioned the faculty a little bit and then.

When Jackson becomes a full program will you be able to award more Coverdell Fellows?
Just so talked about careers. I think I've covered everything in general with the last 15 minutes. Let me see here. Oh, I have a question asking.
Oh, it actually comes the whole program, meaning a school I mean, we are full program only become a professional school. You'd be able to award more covered up Fellows. You know, I need to talk to some of the powers that be about that. Our hope is that we will be able to fully fund all of our students period.
Uh we would have to talk a little bit more about what it would mean to offer more cover Dell Awards.
I think we've talked a little bit about it this year because we have so many incoming our PCB's.
He said, I was do those letters backwards, so we just.
I think we were a little bit torn just to be transparent of.
You know, we didn't want to necessarily just award all the Peace Corps, a Coverdale fellow and name them all fellows.
You know, I mean, it when I met with the cover down representatives. Like Yeah, does that take away with everybody did everybody have that commitment to doing the required internship and were they in both alignment with the peace core and with what we're looking for in global affairs and so it's it's more.
It's it's a more philosophical question like even just because we can should we so that's a great question to ask and something I think that conversation. I think we'll keep having that conversation going forward. This year into next year. I think it'll be a good conversation this year because we have so many pieces for fellows here. The Peace Corps Volunteers. Here, like I mentioned I think we have 7 plus whatever was in last year's class but only to cover Dells so.
It'll be interesting to see how that dynamic works going forward. So you know, Wilson that was a great question and something that I think ourselves and I really look forward to meeting a lot of the other partner schools. When I go to the peace core event next month in September. September 9th see how other schools do that. I know a lot of the larger schools have larger universities that have multiple schools and multiple fellows and.
Do mentoring and do all sorts of things like that, so as we continue to grow and we gain more resources and not just financial but human capital as well. Maybe we could end up doing a lot more to make to make it even more robust than that, so I don't know if I hope that answers your question I mean, we're still sort of learning how we want to grow the program so I'm glad you asked that question because I think that's
Something we're all still thinking about.

Can alumni with the coverdell fellowship pursue careers that aren't focused on development work ?
Alright let's see can a long night with the Coverdale Fellowship pursue careers that aren't focused on development work Columbia with the Coverdale Fellowship pursue careers that aren't focused on development work.
I'm not 100% sure I understand the question.
I'm assuming you're asking like you were a cover Dell.
And this is general not you personally but somebody is a coverdell. They become a Coverdale fellow stay here in Jackson, they graduate.
And then go off and and what do they do after that.
I think that is possibly just an ethical question. I don't think there's any hard and fast rules. I think for the peace core.
A lot of the rules and regulations for covered all I think are come down from the Peace War on how they want you to to bear that out, and it is something that you can take with you into your career and have on your resume and it's a great thing to have on your resume.
Restrick shoe on what your I don't know anybody. I don't think anybody's making you sign in blood that you're going to do this that and the other thing so if you did want to take a different shift. I don't know that there's anybody holding you to that, so that's probably more of a peace core question because from a Yale Jackson Question. Our hope and our dream is that all of our alarm won't go off and do.
The global good whatever that looks like and that has all I could even be done in the private sector. These days, so there's there's lots of ways to.
To take part in the global good in your career and that's what we want to see our alumni do and that looks like a lot of different things that looks different for everybody, so I don't think I answered your question.
But it's it was a good one to ask that it might be worth reaching out to the peace war to see how they did. They tracked the career trajectory Zavr Coverdell Fellows?
I don't think that's anything that we is partner schools have to do I don't think they look for us to keep track of those?
Long term, I could be wrong. Again, I'll use the I'm new here for awhile so but that's another good question that I can make note of to check when I'm down with the other partners in the peace core stuff in September.
All right how we doing with less than 10 minutes and another anymore questions. I don't see anymore questions. Perhaps I have left something out or there's lots of other things, I could talk about but I don't know if you want me to just.
Wilson Maguwah
12:52:07 PM
Where and what time will you be in D.C?
Fab along or maybe we just we happy to end early if if there's no other questions that you have. But if you do have questions see usually that does inspire questions so great, where what time will you be in DC OK great question. I know I know I wrote it down. I don't have the link so let me see it's it's definitely September 9th.
And let me see if I can find the email that has the location. I have not yet.

I wanna try and find it quickly.

When applying for the program, because there is a 3-5 year professional experience requirement, how closely looked at are GPA scores from undergrad and GRE scores for applicants?
Alright good, we have another question, we're still good we have.
About 5:00 or 6 minutes, thanks to those of you who have held on this whole time I think some of popped out and pop back in when applying for the program because there is a 3 to 5 year professional experience requirement how closely are the GPA scores from under grand jury scores for Atkins. Thank you Caitlin. One thing I will say is it's not a requirement so the 3:00 to 5:00 year professional experience is not a requirement. We do, sometimes have People who come from rifle undergrad. It's pretty rare.
And most of you, I'm assuming are familiar with the Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellows and the Wrangle Fellows. Oftentimes those coming right from underground or with only a year out are People who are coming from those foreign service fellowships, which require them to go to grad school right away so that's where a lot of our 0 to one years of experience. People come from they might come from elsewhere as well so it but it is rare.
Homework that's only about 35 that's a professional program. We do want to make sure that a majority of them have some significant work experience, but I just wanted to clarify that it's not a hard and fast requirement, so keep that in mind. We have People coming in with just their two years of a piece for experience so again similar to the quantitative experience that isn't required.
The Clock experience or the work experience both of those things.
More of that strengthens your application, not a requirement, but it does strengthen our or any answered your vacation. Sorry I haven't crazy things on line application.
So whether you're stupid you're absolutely right. Caitlin that those who are have been working for a long time have a very strong leadership profile perfect career church trajectory and alignment with Jackson's mission. Those People were willing to take risks on lower GPA zanjeer raise whereas just the opposite People who have less work experience. You know, maybe those academic records will weigh more heavily because we need to have no strength in some areas.
The weaker applicants are going to be the ones for you know sort of low and in both areas. The preparation work and academics. So I like to call it a portfolio like your application is a portfolio think about it as a balance and think about what your strengths are and what your weaknesses are and how you can you know enhance what you know, maybe you have a certain weakness so you want to highlight? What your strengths are and vice versa, and don't hide your weaknesses.
That's that's something I've in my long career in in this area that don't hide them as as we read applications. We see them so sometimes it can be helpful for you to say. Hey, you know, I blew my jeries. Here's why maybe there is a particular reason.
Same thing GPA thought so much about GPA as it is about the grade. You've gotten a certain classes and again that trajectory.
We've seen a lot over the years where People kind of bomb their freshman year. 'cause there like in college. So those kinds of things are common. But if we can see an upward trajectory and income emit and the kinds of classes. You're taking that's really what we're looking for so I hope that helps in the answers your question, we're down to. I think 3 minutes are there anymore. Last minute questions. I can probably take one more or maybe 2 more before we get cutoff?
Or we can simply say goodbye and maybe I'll see some of you. On September 9th or if you are around and you haven't yet been sent off please. Check our website and come to maybe you can come to one of our visit days, there held on Mondays this fall, 3 days. One in September. October November maybe you come experience. Jackson first hand meet some of our peace for.
Students and what else I don't know where some of you are located. But if you take a look at our events calendar. I'm going to be in Cairo this fall, and heading to Abu Dhabi and there's grad fairs in both of those locations and we're going to be Apsia Association of professional schools of international affairs, which, if you don't know about you should check themoutabsolute.org if tremendous amount of resources.
We do a lot of their fares.

Can we count classes from EDx on our CV?
And we can, we'll be doing in Asia swing in November. So if any of you were out serving in those areas would love to see you I see. I see a question so we got like one minute left. So let me see if I can answer that can we count classes from FedEx on our CV.
I'm not sure I have X at X do I know what edx is?
I would say, though, we want to know sort of everything you've done so definitely you know when we're looking resume is required and we want to know you know what you've done your transcripts are required. So you know, we want to know about all of your various experiences academically and we want to know about what your extracurriculars? Are we want to know what your volunteer service. But those things are all important to to sort of the idea of.

It's an educational platform where you can enroll in free online classes
Public public affairs and the global goods so we look at all of those kinds of things. Thank you, Heather for clarifying integration platform free online classes. Yeah, absolutely, yeah, yeah, those are helpful and and and some of those online classes are are ones that will want you to as Refreshers, too, so everything you do above and beyond like your traditional bachelors is going to be helpful. You know in in preparing you for grad school in your graduate applications.
There are programs and others and whatnot so I see it's one so will probably be cutoff pretty quickly. So maybe I'll officially say thank you and goodbye and reiterate that I hope to see you somewhere in person or online and maybe we'll see your application this year or next year or the year after depending on where you are, and your your level of service and keep in touch like I said email.
If you have any follow-up questions. I'm happy to help in anyway, I can otherwise I will say farewell safe travels. If you're being sent this summer and hopefully I will see you soon alright thanks. Bye.
