Seeing people pop in here.
Great thank you for being on time.
It might wait a few seconds to make sure people are getting logged on fine and I always like to.
To say have a couple of you early people make sure you can hear and see me, OK, you should have a chat box in front of you.
If a couple of you can say that you can hear and see OK. I gotta hello, so that's a good sign.
Guessing everything is fine people can see and hear perfectly great, so welcome.
Hopefully most of you will have no connection troubles or anything like that, as we go along. But just a heads up. If you do have any troubles or you get it back connection. There will be a link to this weapon are later. I think you get a link to it in a confirmation. Thank you email and it'll probably be on our website so.
Don't worry too much if we lose you but hopefully we won't lose you so anyway. A lot of people are popping in here and it's great. My name is Melissa be Guinness and I'm the assistant director of mission of admissions here at the Jackson Institute. I know some people like to do a few of these so this may not be a first for many of you and so those of you have signed on before know that might know that I actually love to give shoutouts I think.
This technology is super cool and we have people coming from all over so I don't know if everybody had a chance to register. But while people are popping in shout out to Gosh couple dozen countries. Kha zix on Bangladesh, Georgia, 11 on China. Indonesia Banine, Turkey, Poland, Spain. I don't know if you all got on and then there's a couple dozen states represented from all the way out in Nevada and Utah to regionally here, Virginia DC, New York.
There's even some Washington State, Texas, so I see a hello from Columbia, so welcome so I hope that we can answer some of your questions so again. Let's get started again. My name is Melissa McGinnis and I want to. I think to do this web and are in a little bit of a reverse than I'm used to doing obviously it's December. Gosh, super 9th already and many of you.
May or may not be aware that our application deadline for the fall of 2020 is coming up very quickly. It will be January 2nd. Midnight January, 2nd 11:59. I should say January 2nd and I think what I want to do is instead of diving in and giving you an overview of Jackson. If those of you who are on the site around the web and are now have any specific application questions for this season. I want to make sure I get to those who.
You who are already applying or thinking about applying have started their application. Maybe there's some confusing things. I want to make sure you have your applications application questions answered because I do. An email blast about this, if you're on our listserv. We are going to be closed. The universities officially closed during recess and then the admission staff is going to be taking some time off will be checking in now and again to the jackson.inmissions@yale.edu email address.
Now and again, but with the Holidays and who knows what kind of weather is going to be with all of that will do our best to check in but I want to make sure your questions are answered so keep in mind. We are going to be closed really at the close of business on Friday, November. December 20th through January, 2nd Thursday. January 2nd which is when we return to work and that is the day of the deadline, so will have all that data help answer questions but.
If dozens and dozens of you have voice mails and emails for us. It'll be hard to stay on Top of that. So I want to leave the beginning of this to you to those of you are playing and then we can give an overview and expose if you are interested in the future have other sort of broader questions will do it that way. Hopefully, that makes sense. Hopefully you found your chat box. I want to start I wrote down a couple very, very common questions.
Um and I want to let you know, I'm going to answer these first 3 questions that I already have compiled and one is some advice so let me grab my glasses here and hopefully this will work for all of you.
And let's see so one of the main questions. We've been getting is about fee waivers. We have a fee waiver deadline. On December 1st and that is much later than the graduate schools fee waiver deadline. We are still part of the Graduate School. Hopefully many of you know that we will be coming our own Independent School here at Yale. Sometimes we're going to hopefully launch that in 2022 in the meantime, we're still part of the Graduate School of Arts.
Scientists, which means it's in their application that we're using so keep that in mind. If you're starting application. If you're in their lot of technical questions really are for them. When you get into sort of philosophical stuff that'll be us. You know what we're looking for what we need what we want but when you get into the technical like I've trouble uploading this, or deadlines and payments. That's all the graduate schools, so specially if you have questions about that during recess you might want to reach out to.
Some as well, I didn't have their email just I think it's Graduate School admissions@gmail.edu so again if you have technical issues do that. But the fee waiver question. I keep getting post December, 1st and we don't do fee waiver extensions are fee waiver deadline is already a couple weeks beyond what the graduate schools deadline is. I think there's this November. 20th so feel free to reach out if you think you have an extreme circumstance but at this point.
We do not offer extension so keep that in mind going forward that you will have to pay your fee. And so that brings me to my advice do not wait until the last minute. On January, 2nd to submit your application. I know you probably want to read that statement of purpose one more time trust me. You'll want to update it every time you read it so trust yourself trust that you know your story in your passion and submit it with time to spare.
Because you do not have an opportunity to resubmit a re upload items after the deadline after it closes and if you have a technical issue. If there's a glitch if you have a network something an year late even if your seconds late, you will actually.
Not be able to submit unlike the December 1st deadline, where at least you just you could still submit you just have to pay the fee. The application deadline closes and so you don't want to wait till the last minute, so that's my professional advice to you. I've been working in graduate admissions for well over 20 years. Only a little over a year here at yields accent, but my advice is to submit as early as you can for your own benefit so that was my advice fee waiver deadline is past and also the one other major question that we keep getting.
Is do I need to wait for my recommenders and my test scores to come in before I submit do not wait. You can submit your application without those things being in the second part of that answer would be people often want an exact date well. If I can submit them. If those things can be submitted after the deadline. When is the latest possible date?
I really can't give you the latest possible date because it really should be the deadline January 2nd. But we obviously can't read all of the applications all at the same time, we have a large committee and multiple people reading so it does take a little while so if everybody waits to submit letters and test scores. Then it could become a problem, So what we do is we focus on those who are in complete applicants already and we start reading. Those don't worry. There's no advantage or we don't have rolling admissions, so we just we have to to read them all.
So very holistic admissions approach so you don't have to worry about again. You're not in an advantage by getting it in early you just need to get in on time. But the later things come in after the deadline. The riskier it is because if we finish reading all of those complete applications. We will look at the incomplete applications. But you really don't want us reviewing applications that are incomplete because if you're still missing 2 letters.
And test scores then that could become a problem because we can't wait forever. For those things so keep that in mind don't wait to submit your application, but stay on Top of your recommenders. I'm assuming ETS will give you confirmations went test scores are received keep an eye on your application portal. That's where things will be tracked again. I don't have access to you re uploads and total uploads those things are all done by the Graduate School.
I'm guessing they don't handle individual requests like how you receive my cherries so keep those things in mind.

Hello, my name is Miho Tanaka from Japan. I'm applying to MAS. I have a question about my eligibility.
Yeah, so those are my my advice based on questions. I'm getting let me check some of the chat emails that we have and thank you for your patience if you are new here in your may be interested in next year or the year after thanks for your patience remember all of these things that will be helpful to you going forward. But we can talk a little bit about you know, Jackson in general is going to get some of these questions answered so alright so we have a couple of people.

I understand in order to apply for MAS degree, 7-year work experience is required. I am keen to apply although I have only 3 years of experience. Would the lack of years of experience disqualify me for applying to MAS? (My roles/positions include managerial/representative ones typically assumed by people with 5-10 years of experience. )
Asking about the MAS degree so that is our midcareer degree. It does require a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience if you've looked at some of the BIOS on our website. You'll see that the students usually have between 12 and 15 years. We're definitely looking for people who are arriving leaders in their careers.
And they still have a career trajectory, so they're not necessarily to senior they still have to have a need for Jackson and how they can use this in their careers so that's in a nutshell that that's how that works so we have a question here asking about 3 years of experience. So yes, the minimum is 7. So we wouldn't admit anybody to VMS with less than 7 years, so that would leave the two year. MA program so we do have people in the 2 year Oh my program.
Who are eligible for the midcareer but they still are usually on the beginning level of their careers and that's something to keep in mind as well again. We're just looking for a holistic class and we take that holistic approach and will review everybody within the context of the applicant pool and as we go forward in building our class, so the difference with the massive budget is one year.
Fully customizable with no requirements no required internship or anything like that, so with the 2 year. MA we actually have the required summer internships and it is. It is a 2 year program so it's much more rebut robust so a lot of people who are looking for that academic or area preparation will send the language requirement and.
So those are some things to think about so I'm bouncing all over a little bit, but I hopefully that at least helps me know ask the question about the eligibility for them as well. We have another Ms question who is 9 years of experience this question is more about.

I am so interested in the M.A.S, i am right now a local mayor of Bogota´s dowtown with 9 years of full experience and I have a question : Jackson school accepts the My Best score of toefl IBT?.
The total scores in the best scores. We do have a minimum requirement for the tool full or else for non native English speakers, so that is the only thing that we have a minimum. You might have seen the profile on our website of averages, and medians of GPA's cherries and all of those kinds of things. But the total is one thing that we have in a minimum and that is 102, so that is.
I was free with ielts minimum enzyme wanted.
Saying it's 7 but I might have to look that up and it might be posted somewhere on our website. But most people take the duffel and it is a 102 minimum so do keep that in mind. If you're applying let's see we have a question about Jerry Scores.

Hello Melissa! Thank you for this webinar. My GRE scores: Verbal 141, Math 148, Analytical Writing 3. I have more than 10 years (9 in Ministry of Education, 2 year in universities). Do I have a chance? I got scholarship for studying. Should I apply or I should retake GRE?
The let's see here looks like we've got so somebody said many giving me there. Jerry scores and again. There's no minimum requirements and it looks like this person might be interested in the AMA S and so because we don't have a core requirement for the MAS.
We are a little bit more lenient. I would think very subjectively, though with the test scores that.
When you look at the website and you see the MA. The two year MA profiles. The Ms are very similar, but we might have a little bit more leniency. There so again keep in mind. The juries the GPA is all of that are not minimum requirements that you see we're going to look at everybody's application. Whether it's MARMAS in conjunction with everything in your application so if you have, maybe a lower than average GPA AGRE.
Uh scores then we're going to look for probably we're going to look more closely at your course work that you've done your relevant coursework, particularly in the quantitative area since that's one thing that Jerry's test. So it comes down to thinking about your application as a balance so if you don't do very if you do below average on your GR reason you have a below average GPA and you can't get an academic reference. Those are kind of.
3. Red flags that are combined together so that could be an uphill battle. But at the same time. Maybe somebody has this amazing career trajectory an amazing life experience in the admissions committee might be willing to take a risk on that type of an applicant, but again we're very small program, which I didn't mention aren't aren't yet our two year. Ms each cohort is about 3035 students an rma S were typically about.
So very small cohorts so we can't have too many people who are academic risks in each coat work so that's just something to keep in mind, and that's our our issue with that holistic approach that we take with the each applicant and also with each class so I don't usually recommend that people self select out of applying because even if somebody is weaker in one area they may have a strength in another.

11:17:35 AM
would be possible to have a fee waiver application?
So if you're willing to put in the time and pay the application fee. And this is a dream to be here and you can make a case for why Jackson fits into your long term career goals professional goals within the global arena. Then you might have a shot so again the only thing we have a minimum for is that Oh full at this point in time. So hopefully these are are not too philosophical answers to your questions.

Thank you so much for this! What do the next few months look like for those of us who have already submitted to the Dec. 1st early (fee waver) deadline?
And we said well I think I answered already the fee waiver question that deadline passed on December 1st. Let's see so I have a question from Catherine, who's asking.
What does few months of those look like have already submitted great question these are the kinds of questions that I wanted to make sure it to get answered for you in the immediate applicant pool, so again. We don't do rolling admissions, so you will just have to kind of breathe have some patience, Yeah. I'm sure you're applying other schools focus on those because really there's nothing. You can do check your portal make sure your letters have come in and your cherries have come in.
If you find find find that they haven't opinion recommenders contact ETS. Otherwise, we have to read applications again we have a large committee and multiple layers and levels of reading and we usually do our meetings sometime in February and our decisions have to be approved by the Graduate School again. We're still part of the guards at school so they have to review or recommendations, and so it's quite the robust process.
So the decisions go out usually in the middle of March. We promised that we do them as soon as we can. We it may feel like we're taking forever and we're sitting on them, but it's technology and humans. Combined and double checking and making sure everything is all all correct and and ready to go and we also want to try to get our financial aid awards out at the same time or within 24 to 48 hours so we have to.
Will Check all of that are funding is merit based here at Jackson so make sure you check that box that you want to be considered for aid and we will consider you for aids so once our admissions decisions are done in the class is complete are emitted classes complete. We then go through sort of an unofficial tier system to award Aiden? What thing for all of you to keep in mind, who are applying for aid you might be externally funded.
Or externally wealthy and don't need any but those who apply for aid get something and currently are minimum award is half tuition, so that's 20 something $1000. We don't have the tuition numbers for next year. Yet so it will be sort of in the mid 20s, so you can rest in that start doing your math for your planning, but do keep in mind that many people also receive full tuition and I think last year. Almost half class admitted class received.
Full tuition and and of full statement. Some people might have received half segment in there as well. So have patience wait till March. Hopefully, if financially doesn't go out in your email. It will go out within that 24 to 48 hour period. That's our hope and we have, I think it's I think it's gonna website. April 1st and 2nd. I believe is are admitted student program so those of you who are perspective students for the.
Future keep in mind. We just really can't be meeting. That's why we don't do webinars and visit days in the spring for perspective students because we were so focused on our applications and targeted class. But for admitted students. We have a two day admitted student program. ASAP we call it for short and hopefully many of those of you. Hopefully get admitted will be able to attend that and we have lots of events and meetings with students.

Hello! FAQs on the website mention that language proficiency can be proven through a language proficiency exam. Does this exam need to be administered by Yale or can it be administered by an employer, such as Peace Corps?
Faculty of their classes and have some fun swag and things like that, so those are things to look forward to and then you will have and I believe May 1st. You will have to decide whether or not. You want to enroll at Jackson or to one of our competitors, so that's the overview for the next few months and I hope that puts many of you have already applied at ease and those of you who are going to be applying very soon. Let's see.
Where did it go after he was mentioned language proficiency? Yes, OK, so the language proficiency?
Up there is an office here, so you don't for those of you who don't know we do have a language proficiency requirement. And that must be met before graduating from the program so many people have a language coming in your native language. Multiple languages, which many applicants do and what you do sometimes before enrolling. I believe someone will reach out to you probably from.
Soon affairs our registrar's office will reach out to you about doing proficiency testing. So they may allow you to take it externally. But Yale has very robust language offerings as well as ability to test. It may be an on line thing like if you're still serving in the peace core or somewhere. There are many, many ways to test the language proficiencies. So you if you're admitted and if you choose to enroll you will be contacted sometimes.

Hello! I understand that M.A. students have great flexibility in choosing courses which best align with their professional interests and goals. Do M.A. students formally or informally choose a concentration or specialization within the broad field of Global Affairs?
Probably over the late summer early fall before he rolled about doing your testing so you can kind of plan. What your language requirements might be during the program so I hope that helps and makes sense. Let's see we have another question here from Dara Meuris asking about flexibility of choices and how they align with their professional interests.
And the concentrations and specializations so normally that's a really good question. So I will answer this first from sort of admitted student question so very similar to the language proficiency? What will happen is you will be contacted sometime over the late summer early. Fall is definitely when you arrive you will be in communication with ours to affairs office, who meets one on.
One with every student MANMAS to help you plan your curriculum because you're right. We have so much freedom. It's one of the unique aspects. Most unique aspects about the Jackson program where the MA students as I mentioned for the MAS students have 100% choice on the 8 classes. They take in the year. The anime students only have 3 core requirements stats class an econ class in history class.
Besides that, you actually can take classes at any of the other professional schools here at Yale and it's such an interesting robust opportunity and you're not left to your own devices and that's part of the reason some of you might know that we do. Look for people to have about 3 to 5 years of experience. We find that's a nice sweet spot where people have had some experience been in the workforce and have our starting to learn.
What their specific global affairs IR passion? Is and they've been in entry level positions or internships or volunteer things like peace court each for all or various things like that, so Fulbright all those different things in their starting to learn. This is the region that I love and these are the experiences I need or these are the tools that I need so all it's saying I hope this answers your question is that people are coming to the drugs and programs for.
Many different reasons as I mentioned we enroll cord of about 30 to 35, you probably have 30 to 35 different areas of interest different reasons for attending maybe you want to get some additional tools. Besides are required. Stats Nikon and maybe you want to take a couple higher level, Econ classes out of SOMS School of Management, which is heels Business School. Or maybe you have an area interesting you do maybe you have a language.
He met already but maybe you want to take an additional language because you want to have more expertise in a particular region. There are various reasons, whether it's area studies regional studies so we don't have certificates or formal.
You know, so I'm drawing a blank rainy Monday, here in New Haven. So so yeah, so because you can create your own. You really, truly can create young so knowing what you want to do what you want to get out of the program is going to be helpful to you, it does increase your chances of admission when you can kind of frame that for us. You don't need to tell us as part of your application exactly which course would you want to do?
If you have an idea that's great, but it is not required for admission. We just want you to have a good general idea because otherwise if you're you know a lot of people. Unfortunately, one apply right from undergrad. But this could be a very overwhelming experience. If you get here. You have thousands of classes available to you whether it's human rights classes out of the law school or.
Do you know any of the public management classes and in the wealth of classes that we offer here at Jacksons taught by our faculty. Ann are Senior Fellows, who are practitioners. In the field. We have experts in China and in various regions. Former ambassadors and former White House officials and IMF World Bank. I mean, we have people who have been in the field in their teaching classes, so you want to get classes from them as well so.
That is the long answer I think to how there are.

I have 98 points in my toefl score, this means that I do not have the minimum score for Jackson school, do you recommend me not apply with this score? excuse me It is very important for me.
Many many different ways that you can build your builder experience here, so I hope that answers your question so I do have the question again about the to full with that being our minimum.
It's it's really, really a tough thing with if you have less than one or 2 on the Toefl. I think potentially with the MAS the Midcareer again and might be a little bit of flexibility.
I mean, it would really be.
It would have to be there would have to be something about an application that is, is.
So outstanding what again whether it's the leadership profile or Rockstar academic.
Just to to affirm to affirm that you know this, this test score doesn't really reflect what my academic.
Language or quant preparation whenever that escort might be so I don't. I don't want because it's a committee decision. I don't want to be the one to say you probably be not worth applying if you haven't met the minimum because there might be that extremely rare case where an exception is made.
But like all of the other profile statistics. The stronger scores are the better in application is so it will come down to not just your own story in your own experience, but they're going to compare you with the rest of the applicant pool and so because of the volume of applicants. We received we can only admit so many people. It will come down to what? What could keep you in the class and in the end, it may be well. That person didn't.
Meet the minimum to forward this one did in there. Otherwise, similar so you know, I don't want to say hard no on on on applying if you haven't met a minimum to fold, but it would be a very, very difficult. Hill to climb. I guess you could say sorry. I use a lot of analogies and idioms. But I hope that helps probably not the answer. You want to hear but with it being the only minimum that we have, I think it would be tough.
But if you're willing to give it a try and pay the fee and see what happens one which makes me think one other thing since since a lot of this is a numbers game. If you will we can only admit so many people for our small program.
That I often tell people that because it just comes down to numbers. We might have half. Ave pool might be completely qualified and admit Obel and this all makes sense. But we can't admit to have the applicant pools. So, we, we do end up having to reject and deny many applicants something to keep in mind is if this fits in with your professional goals. This might not from any of you who might be on fellowships or sponsored.
By by governments are military, but for those of you who have some flexibility. If you don't get admitted it doesn't affect your application. If you want to apply in the future. So there's no harm. If you don't get admitted and then you want to reapply next year. If you apply the very next year. They will include your application. So we'll have that, but will still want you to update things and have.

You mentioned you've been working in admissions for years. Also, Jackson is quite selective in it's admissions too. Given all this, in your opinion, what differentiates a good applicant from a great one (to the MA program)? I'm editing - and re-editing - all my materials, and want to be sure I submit the best possible application I can. Thank you!
Thanks be new or updated but that's just something to keep in mind, so I know that's not what you want to hear either. But you know it is a reality that a lot of people do not get admitted so keep that in mind. If you have the ability to keep trying. Let's see is asking a question about me, I've worked in admissions for many years, So what differentiates a good applicant from a great 1 editing and re editing.
I love it 'cause you will continue to edit and re edit. I have also so I worked at another University another school for.
About 20 over 20 years prior to coming here last year and in between there. I also did some private consulting and so help people with reviewing their applications and whatnot so.
I don't do that anymore. 'cause 'cause you'll see that as a conflict of interest, which is completely illegitimate. So I've seen a lot. I will say my best advice for those of you who are keep rewriting your personal statement is be true to yourself. I know that might sound cheesy. But we admissions officers and admissions committees believe that we can see through you.
What you think we want to hear I don't know if I said that probably but hopefully that makes sense so we, we don't want to you don't want us to think that you're just telling us something because it's what we want to hear. We want to hear your story. We want to know how this program fits in some advice. I give is you can't just copy and paste. All of these competitors. All the schools in DC and Princeton at Boston and all of the in New York.
We all recruit together, we all know each other. We know you're applying to all of our schools or most of our schools. They all have different focuses so but we all aren't are similar in a lot of ways, especially in our commitment to IR and that kind of thing, but we all have different nuances about our programs so the requirements are different. Some have more. Some have less summer, more quantitative summer less there's there's we've talked about the area studies.
Some have certificates, some don't so Unfortunately for all of you just copying or cutting and pasting names of schools is not going to cut it no pun intended you. You really need to make sure you understand our program. We'll see that will see that you're familiar with what Yale is about what Jackson is about the freedom of the program.
You know, having had that couple years of experience hopefully in telling us how this fits in so many people tell us how great they are or they tell us how great we are an forget to tell us the real practical stuff about what they're looking for to get out of this program and how it meets their career goals like their next step in their career with that trajectory looks like so those are the kinds of things like I like to say that.
Connect the dots we need you to connect the dots with your academic pastor, professional past us and your future career goals. So don't forget to connect those dots and again be familiar with the programs that you're applying to we see people.
Tell us, they want to you know their dream school is something different so check your personal statements before you hit submit because again there's no changing of things. So we don't want to hear you say it's your dream to go to the Kennedy school so it happens, it does so.

Are there any part-time study options for either the M.A. or the M.A.S.?
There so I'll stop reiterating that be familiar with the program and share your passion. So I know it sounds a little cheesy. But hopefully that helps so alright let's see angelika is asking about part time. No, we do not have any part time programs here at Jackson also side note in case we also do not offer any PhD programs currently so that is not what we don't have any of those other parts of you.

Hello Melissa! What does the admissions team look for in the statement of purpose (M.A. in Global Affairs)?
But we don't have traction control is about. The median GPA let pie trying to put some let me there's a profile on our website. Let me try to find it again. It's for the MA. But you can kind of use it as a guideline for the MAS to a little bit of flexibility. Of course, the work experience will be much higher because the MAS.

Is longer and I mentioned some of the flexibility and freedom so this site that I just gave you has the profile, which can gives the medians of GPS in GR ES and hopefully I also miss looks like I missed question about the teams looking for in the statement of purpose. Alexandra hopefully it was really the same answer as the last question sorry.

Would a 100 percentEnglish BA major be enough to show proficiency in English? Should I take the TOEFL ?
Would understand English maybe a major be enough to show OK. So I think somebody is asking if I'm understanding this quick question correctly would an English major bachelors degree in English be enough to show proficiency in English, the.
The degree has to be from an English speaking institution to waive the Toefl if English is not your native language. The Graduate School has a link on that you have to it has to be in English speaking institution, not just an English major and an an Englishman Institution. I can try to find the toll full Graduate School site. But I don't know if I want to waste too much of your time doing that there is an FA Q on our site.
And there's about total waivers if English is your native language. You don't need to take it and if you did. Your I think it's 3 years toward your BA ad in English speaking institution, but being major would not be enough to waive the Toefl Alright, thank goodness are we caught up I think.
I think I may have caught up on the questions. I still see a bunch of severe what time we have 1240 so we have about 20 minutes. Please keep asking questions. I told you the ones that I wanted to come.
And I mentioned the closing again. If you're probably on our list. Now, if you've registered for the webinars so if your get the reminder about our office being closed.
And I would definitely some of you might have my email to which are welcome to contact me, but I would say during recess use the jackson.admissions@yale.edu email address because there are more people who have access to that and I would hate for you to get lost in my inboxes with holiday troubles and whatnot OK so.

Could you clarify your earlier point about financial aid? What proportion of the class usually get some level of aid?
I don't see any more questions. So hopefully, I've answered most of your questions keep asking and maybe I will dive into some of our overviews for those of you who are new. I have a question about financial aid. Alright Catherine is asking clarification.
It is pretty rare for Masters programs to provide funding and again. Everybody is different. You know, some schools do need based some do merit. Some don't do any you have to find your own funding. So Jackson is merit based. We are given a pool of money by the school and we once admissions decisions are made students are admitted.
And in that very short window before we tell you that we meant so we don't consider financial aid until our decisions are final and then we have a tier based system so first of all make sure you check the box that says you are interested in receiving aid from Jackson because we assume you're not if you don't check that box and it's as simple as that we don't require a faster forms or any other federal forms because it's merit based.
So check that box because last year and in years. Previous there's a handful of people who didn't check the box and we don't offer them any funding and they come back to us and like why did they get any funny? Well, you didn't ask for it so 1st and foremost checkbox next again that ear based system is this half tuition is the minimum.
So have tuition is the lowest tier the next year would be full tuition and the next year would be full tuition. An full statement. I think I mentioned some people received less than a full statement. What sometimes happens is people come back to us who only got half tuition or full tuition and say, Hey, I've received this much money from this place or this is my life situation. Can I receive more funding.
Because we use this pool of money we likely don't have any funding available until people start making their admissions decisions so people actually need to decline the offer to free up money so if you are looking for financial reconsideration that might have to come later. There is no magic formula for the tier system. It's you know, we don't have it's not a formula, but I will say that even I keep talking about the.
Stats, the profile, stats and all those medians and averages well those things are very, very fluid when it comes to the admission process.
Those things become much more important at the financial aid level, OK, so when we say merit based you know you're going to be looking at the higher scores. The higher GPS and the the more work experience in higher leadership profile are typically going to be those who are in the Top tier who do receive full tuition and full segments again. No magic number. We don't say, Oh, there's 20 of those others 10 and there's it's not as as.

Are there opportunities to study, intern, or work abroad?
As a country is that so and will find out closer to the date? What are pool of money is and we figure all that out, so that might be too much information but maybe it's too detailed. Hopefully, that helps and thank you OK. Thank you for asking more about funding. Yes. Again, I think doing this in reverse and answering your questions 1st.
Is messing up my flow so I've left out a lot of things but there absolutely opportunities for doing T ATF Serais. Of course assistance research assistance. People do them with our faculty. People do them with a senior. Fellows, which is an amazing networking opportunity. You can also be we have World Fellows, which are here in the fall semester and people that can be a liaison for those so there's.
Opportunities for to earn money I mean, it, you can't make a living off of being of course, assistant, obviously, but it helps take the edge off with financial aid. So you are allowed to work while you were here. Jackson not all schools allow that but we do allow that and we we help you with that again. Student affairs will if you get admitted and assigned to enroll you'll probably start hearing about those opportunities during the summer like this faculty member needs this and so there there.
No like jobs that you can apply for so keep your eye on that, if you do get admitted in it decide to enroll properly actually.
I didn't answer that question probably Katie actually asked about.
Study rod work abroad so.
Hopefully, that financial aid question helped as well because that's just super important and again. It's a nice unique opportunity to have to work with the World Fellows. But I saw in turn, and I saw that but people. The study abroad really would be through your summer internship, so not a lot of Masters programs. I think some do but not a lot have a study abroad that is typical to like you would treat here. Traditionally, an undergrad where you take a semester and study abroad.
The abroad opportunities would be here if that's where you choose to do your required summer internship. You would work with career services. Again, 1 on one they would meet with you as soon as you arrive to start thinking about what you want to do for summer internship and your first job so they do that right away. Obviously, your reason for coming to grad school is to get that job so we'll try to work you on out here that as soon as we can so and then I know there's lots. Of course opportunities so various courses might have travel involved with them, but they would be short-term.
Travel and then there's also the social site. I know that our cohort is were again more small. It's an intimate program. It's a tight knit group of people and they do a lot of socializing together and they even travel together during breaks and they might go abroad for their vacations. During breaks and Whatnot. So Katie I hope that answers your question and I hope when I went on about the Supplemental Financial.

What's the average age for the M.A.S.?
Opportunities that that helped as well, even more questions. Thank you for attending happening answer questions again. Any of you can email. the Jackson dot admissions address. We have Angelica's asking about average age for the MAS career. It depends what you know, those those averages are going to be skewed when we've had as few as 2 people to share we had.
And I don't think we've actually run the stats for the NBA S. We had averages for the amaze, but you know with people being anywhere from 7 to 12 to 15 potentially a little bit more.
Again, it's on Monday, you probably do the math on that. I think I will say that in our two year MA program. We might have people who are like 3028. Thirty 32 an they definitely feel like they're on the older side. They could be eligible like I mentioned for the AMA S, but want or need the story or need the?
The average MA Corbin about between.
26 and 27 it's a little lower this year. So we lost a couple at the end with visa issues, so that brought the covert average age down, but it might be different from year to year so that's mine an answer to your question 'cause. I don't have an actual statistical. Thank you for your patience might not answer all right? Are there any other questions?
I feel like I have touched a little bit where my CHEAT SHEET here of of things about in general overview. As I've answered some of these questions. Some of your questions on some of the application questions. Hopefully, I've.
You've learned a little bit more about Jackson if you haven't. If you didn't know about it already. We've talked about size or small signs. We didn't talk about location. But we are. We're located in New England here in New Haven, CT, which is it's a city but it's a small and manageable city and where easy access to Boston in New York, hitting on the train to DC tomorrow. So it's a straight shot on Amtrak, so we're in a nice.
In between location, which is a hop off to a lot of different places. And yet it can be quiet to focus on your application or on your studies as well. I mentioned the 3 core for the program and the language of the summer experience and then the full freedom of the MAS midcareer program. We've talked about funding talked a little bit about faculty. You can find a lot of information about them. On our website or faculty and are Senior Fellows.
They do more than just teach classes they?
2 lectures mentoring and one on ones, and you can actually reach out to them. That's the one thing that I feel like is really different here from my experience with my colleagues at other institutions is you know if if you're familiar with these programs probably have no bad choices and you will have great names and big names that are teaching or are doing things at all these universities.
That you will have access to but when I have found is you have actual access to these people. They're not just around here and there, maybe they only teach once a week, but you can reach out to them and coordinate meetings with them appointments with them. People end up getting jobs with them after graduation. There's so many various opportunities to interact personally they're here, they're in the building.
It shows him coffee machines, so it's it's there around and you have access to it. So it's something that I think is really, really huge and really unique about the Jackson student here at Yale. So we didn't talk too much about careers. Let me see.

Do international students usually return to their home countries after graduation or are the majority successful in being sponsored by international employers inside and outside of the United States?
Diary is asking question about international students do they usually return to their home countries or the majority successful being sponsored by international ploy ease employers inside and outside of the OS on one hand. I think a lot of our hope is that you will go back to your own country and this is a programming. Global affairs and whether it be diplomacy or school skills that you learn to use them.
Collaboration and all of that that you would take that go with that, so I think that's what we look for from the admissions perspective. I think a few people do get sponsorship. But you know you might be able to do certain types of jobs through PT short-term jobs will there be through government agency, NGOs and things like that, but long term.
Probably sustainable of course in this crazy climate right now with visa concerns. I think it's just there's a lot of it's going to be case by case, but career services works with you on finding that first job. But you have to keep keep your mind open at your first job out of Grad School is not likely going to be your dream job. Hopefully it's your first dream job and some people do want to get the experience here whether it's through.
You win or working in DC and doing different things like that, and then taking that experience to eventually go back to their home countries. So one thing you can see it's a first job thing. Let's see well. I have time I pulled aside a link to send to you because so many people ask us about what kind of jobs. People do an we have actual not just distichs but actual jobs first jobs.

https://jackson.yale.edu/beyond-jackson/jobs-after-jackson/overview/
For many, many years I think it's a good 5, six years or more from 2011. It's a little bit hard to find here's the link. I'm sending you the link OK. Now it doesn't have names associated so we don't know if these are international students. We don't know if these are where people are from. But if you take that link that I just gave you and scroll. All the way to the bottom of the page that's where you will.
See see a full list of job titles and locations, so beyond the charts and the percentages. We actually list from each year. The first jobs that people took so you see how broad and vast. It is global affairs. Obviously incorporates a lot of things, so we are. We are looking for people who have that commitment to the global good and who are interested in that global IR polisy space.
And can make a case for what they need out of a program like this to go on and do that. So hopefully you'll find that link interesting how we doing on time. We have 5 minutes up. This has been a super unique way to do this. I hope I wasn't confusing by doing it in reverse and answering your questions first I see summer signing off so I'm glad I've answered.
Many of your questions and reach out to myself or to the Jackson email address. If you have any questions again try not to save any urgent application questions. Last minute or small production and there's everybody ask their questions last minute. We might not be able to get to all of them in time for you to submit by the deadline so please keep that in mind.
Hopefully even for those of you who were new to Jackson and had hoped maybe learn a little bit more of an overview rather than the practical. Questions about applying this year, hopefully through that you're able to to learn more about Jackson and that you would apply in the future and keep your eye on us. When we become our own school. We will not have to share the application with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, so I think the application process.
Much more streamlined and make a little bit more sense, so right now, the the personal statement talks about research and all of that and that could be the case for some of you, but we really want to know about your professional background and your professional goals. This is a professional program research and teaching long-term pH. DS that's not really our main focus. Some people small amount of people do that, but it's not our main focus.
So hopefully when we in the next if you're applying not this year. But in the next year or 2. You'll see that more clarified through our application process. 'cause it'll be our own and in our instructions in our FA. QS will be our own and hopefully that will streamline streamline that for those of you who are playing in the future so any last minute questions before we sign off there's just a couple minutes left. Let me check the the the.
