I'm seeing a bunch of you pop in here, so I'll just give him give a minute to get more people in.
Meanwhile, I always like to make sure that you can hear and see me so.
If you could a couple of you could maybe check out your chat function and throw me a message if you can hear and see me OK.
Good got some confirmations loud and clear perfect perfect. Thank you Great Alright.
This is exciting this is actually our last official web and R of the summer. We have one in a couple of weeks. But that's for peace core volunteers, but this is our last Gen one so I actually.
Contemplated doing it outside today just to show you are beautiful backyard here and Hill House Ave in New Haven and then we have to wrenshall downpours this morning so I couldn't.
Couldn't pull that off so I decided to try this for my stand up desk. Mentally you can see the view of the Peabody Museum outside my window but.
I thought I'd try something different.
Woman's will get started a bunch of People plugged in and then we've had a little low so maybe People join us in a little bit.
Uhm I always like to start.
I'm so fascinated by where everybody's from and and People who are interested in jail. Jackson and so I always write down. We've got. I count 14 countries represented and 16, US states so that is pretty cool. I was like that idea. We have People coming from.
Argentina Panama, Molly, Kenyon, Dan Coast to coast and the states so that's a pretty exciting thing so shout out to all of you who are joining us today so.
Tomahawk it going officially my name is Melissa McGinnis to Miami Assistant Director of admissions here at the Jackson Institute and I want to give you a brief overview of what we're all about. I want to leave a good chunk of our time for questions that you might have so to give you sort of overview of the web and are just kind of plan accordingly if you have certain questions.
We're going to talk about a little bit about our location of our size our curriculum. The faculty financial aid and touch on careers and the things that are Jackson student stoop so.
Those are what will touch on so feel free to ask questions anytime. I'm moderating them at the same time, so hopefully, I will not lose some questions so feel free to ask but I will keep plugging along and try to get to irrelevant questions. As we go through each of the sections. So alright well. First of all. I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Jackson, It's too for Global Affairs.
But we are actually in its current form. We've been the Jackson Institute for about 10 years or so now when we were given some very generous funds from John and Susan Jackson, who wanted they were yelling who wanted to develop the International Public Policy program here at Yale and but prior to that. We have a 40 year history of being that Top I art program here, yeah were founding members of Absea, which is the Association of.
Freshman schools of International Affairs, which, if you haven't done so you should check out their website abcya.org. They are a great resource for all the member schools and events here and everywhere and other resources that they offer so excuse me. So you know, we have a great history here at Yale Jackson and we're really excited about our future because many of you may have heard that we have been approved.
To buy the University to become the next professional school here at Yale, so the next. We're hoping the launch in 2022 to become I think it's the 14th school professional school at Yale. So the first one since 1976 from the School of Management was established so it's a really, really cool. Time, and I've been here just under a year and it's been a lot of fun and hopefully you found our events page and see that we've done.
A lot of coffee chats oral a more all over the world and then I'll be traveling through the Middle East N Africa and doing the Asia swings so I hope to see some of you on the road as we go forward in this recruiting season and yeah, so.
Feel free to take down my email address in case I forget to give it at the end. It is melissa.mcginnissmcginnis@yale.edu an you should always hold on to the Jackson dot admissions email. That's our general email account and tell everybody might be best to start there because, with my schedule. I don't want to get lost in my inbox so feel free to email, the Jackson admissions email.
Anytime an messages will get passed on if they can't be answered. We have staff who worked on that. So so that's a brief overview about Jackson's history in our future and I would say that I don't know how many of you know where New Haven. CT is, but I just moved here in the past year. And so it's been really great and like I mentioned neither beautiful backyard and we're located in a huge Victorian home on Hill House.
Ave in New Haven in central campus an it was deemed one of the most beautiful streets in America and I can attest to that and it being in this type of setting really adds to the intimate nature of the program so between the faculty, staff, students senior Fellows World Fellows. All the People who are involved with Jackson to make it happen. It's really a great opportunity to interact and just being close proximity with each other and really.
Just it really enhances the sense of community here? Are we do have 2 degree programs. We have a 2 year man global affairs. That's our traditional program. We have a one year MAS master of advanced studies.
Excuse me and also in global affairs that's our one year Midcareer program.
I won't talk too much about that. It's pretty straightforward if any of you are interested in that send me a chat a little bit later and I'll touch on it. It's pretty straightforward. There's no requirements, but there's also no financial aid at this time, but it's a great little program. If you have needs and want an interdisciplinary program in sort of the advanced areas of your career.
Alright so I'll focus mostly on the 2 year.
MA program and I want to talk a little bit about our curriculum because we're probably one of the most flexible IR policy programs out there.
We only have reading core classes, we have a stats class and E con class in history class.
And we also have a required summer experience.
But otherwise the exciting part about this program is that you actually have.
The availability to take all the rest of your classes anywhere at Yale. So you can take them at any of the other professional schools lot of People take them at SOM, which is the School of Management or FAFES, which is the school forestry or the school social work and and the law school and you can do joint degrees with those programs as well. But you don't have to be a joint degree candidate.
To take classes at those at those different schools and you can take them at the other professional schools as well. So it really is. A unique opportunity to like we say like build your own career curriculum and just build your experience.
And that's one of the reasons why we do look for People who have usually 3 to 5 years of work experience prior to coming and rolling because we really need you to have a good general idea what it is, you want to do is otherwise. You could potentially show up and look at the Yale Course catalog and have you have access to thousands of classes and that can be an overwhelming experience. We do have staff who handled you and.
Walk with you through that process and you do not do it alone. But it is really going to get to have an idea, a specific idea of what it is, you want to do you don't have to have the exact courses planned out? When you're applying but have that general idea of what you want to get out of this program and how you want to use it to for the next level and next to each of your career so this is just a really neat.
Opportunity easy academic freedom and the interdisciplinary nature.
Of the program and I can sort of transition Segway to talking a little bit about our faculty today is I believe today is the first day of orientation for World Fellows. They are rising members right there. The rising people in their fields all across the Globe and they are their orientation starts today and they're here for the fall semester and they're taking advantage of course, is the Niels resources in Jackson's resources as well.
But they are also here to be mentors for the students and to be a resource for all of you, or perspective. Graduate students here at Jackson.
And they they do seminars and they do talks and you can actually even apply to be exact title run, but being assistant to them. Working with them and helping them navigate the Yale and New Haven, CT in the states mother here, so there's a lot of unique opportunities for them to be mentors to her. Graduate students and that's just a really cool really cool thing and and on Top of that we have senior Fellows.
And there are Top in their field. They are often diplomats him ambassadors and People from really advanced parts of their careers who are here to teach classes for a year or 2 and they are also a great resource to be mentors and and I mentioned the faculty. The Senior Fellows in the faculty and Roll Fellows because.
It just to emphasize that you can have a really good balance of academics and in the practitioner side of things, so you can really build those 2 things together and choose to create your curriculum that way. So see before I keep. Let me see if anybody has any questions before I keep going.

You may touch on this later, but if we have a very good project in mind for our time at Yale, do we absolutely need to have some years of work? With a good idea for our direction, could we apply in our last year of undergrad?
We have a question about.
Touch on this later very good project in mind.
You still need to have some years of work.
So this is it if I'm understanding the question correctly that we have it might have to do with the idea that a majority of our students do have 3:00 to 5:00 years of work experience.
There's no minimum requirement for that it's not like we say you have to it's the MA ask the midcareer does have a minimum of 7 years of post grad related work experience, but for the MA. We don't have a minimum requirement.
But People who have less than the 3:00 to 5:00 years of experience. We definitely look more heavily at their their undergrad experience internships. Extracurricular activities volunteer work community service. All of that when it comes into play with all applicants, but I would say that.
It it weighs more heavily when someone is is coming from less postgrad work experience so it's something that you would definitely want to emphasize if you're not if you don't have substantive work experience when you're playing so you may want to consider you know, having your recommenders.
Promote that as a strength of yours, too, so we do. Look for recommendations. We look for 3:00. We want want to be professional and want to be academic and the 3rd really should be best based upon your unique and individual situation so that's something to consider so I like to call the application. Your application of portfolio of sorts. So there's a bunch of different requirements, but they come together in a balance so.
You know, we do require the general Jerry test somebody doesn't do well on that. That means maybe some of the academics and certain courses will weigh more heavily. We don't have a GPA requirement, but we do look strongly at a lot of the A lot of the individual courses, you take in that case. Once that would prepare you for the curriculum. Maybe it's quite classes. Or maybe it's your IR classes were looking for your.
Trajectory to make sense and tell us how Jackson fits into all of that.
So I think I flash forward into into what we're looking for which I usually say for the end. But hopefully you're not losing me along the along the along the way here.

How do students work with other faculty (e.g. faculty in a different department who teach Jackson classes)? Is it common for Jackson students to be TAs/RAs/etc. with them, or to have them as advisors?
So let's say somebody Carolinas asking.
How the students work with other faculty is a conference Jackson students? Yes, OK great good question asking about TAS arres we have CA sister course assistance. A lot of students do take advantage of that with Jackson faculty as well as faculty at other departments in schools as well so People do it because it's a great experience and it actually can provide a good network a lot of peoples subsidise it.
Do it as a subsidized for financial aid. So we have really good financial aid here. Jackson everybody who requests financially gets something so 100% People get some form of financial aid. We have different tiers. The minimum at this point we would offer would be half tuition. We might offer full tuition or full tuition and full Skype, so financially is very good, but those who don't get full.
Often, like to add on being TF or an RA with the faculty here or other department's admitted students get an email in the summer before they're even here and they get they get notified that applications are ready to be received because we know who the People are who want or need teaching Assistant Teaching Fellow.
So that happens as early as the summer before he even arrived so People definitely do it and that you know well the curriculum is so very flexible and we would love. Obviously are Jackson students to take as many Jackson classes as possible. Those who take classes elsewhere can also expand their networks through their classmates in the faculty in those departments in those schools. So it's a really great opportunity and I will say to that what I've heard from the current students.
And alumni that even though students take classes across all of Yale. They still were still very cohort driven here at Jackson and the covert is very tight and there's a very strong sense of community here and People do things together and they come together. We have a lounge just down the Hall and People do social things and they have salons and may have various.
Just talks and things that are sponsored and you know, People will come and talk about their area of expertise so and they might go out and do trivia at a local bar or something like that, so that it's a very tight knit community and it remains that way. You can choose to have it be that way. So it's definitely a unique experience.

What is considered a “good” GRE score?
I am someone in the Rocky Mount a good jury. I was going to try to find some of these links to we have some.
Listed on our website, I'll try to post the link for you, we have an overview there really medians and averages.
And they give you an idea but again.
They are not minimum scores so I think here.
Melissa McGinnis
12:19:07 PM
https://jackson.yale.edu/study/ma/program/
We would have to close to my keyboard. So I'm typing trying to type on my keyboard. But I'm on my laptop for the webinars. So yeah, so you'll see. That sort of. The median scores or one 61166 in there as far as the raw scores and that is, is not a minimum, but again People who might score lower than that. You know look at your force work and your grades we will look.
At again everything in a balance so just keep that in mind.
You can have a harder sell if you have a really weak. Tre and a really weak GPA so that's just something to keep in mind, and that's where you need to build up your strength through your resume and your recommenders really need to to push hard if you have weaknesses in a couple different areas of your application.
Africans often use an additional information section to explain that if there's a reason why you know. Often, that first semester in college. Some People sometimes blow it or maybe they try to major that tried to do a major that was way beyond what they really wanted to do so. We do look for a trajectory in even your undergrad experience going from freshman to senior year so we do look for an upper upwards trajectory with that so.
That's important as well, regardless of what the GPA is as long as we see upward mobility that that's usually pretty pretty solid as well.
Peris Wambugu
12:20:50 PM
How do you select applicants? What aspects do you look for in an application?
How do we select applicants that's a great question?
It really we are looking for People who again I don't say that you know they have a really good idea of what it is. They want to do, we look for that work experience. It should be relevant global affairs. IR policy work experience were very IR. Heavy program lot. Apolosi schools might have both domestic and international policy. We really focus on the IR side of things so we will look for.
Your prior experience in future plans with him at and again, having everything sort of makes sense. Whether it be what's on your resume and the things you've been involved in and what your recommenders can attest to and and if they can confirm your commitment to that as a career so that's one of the main things we look for another thing that I like to say is that we do look for evidence of quantitative skill.
I will say that yelled Jackson is probably in the middle range.
Up of looking for that skill so you have been even though I've only been hearing L Jackson for just under a year. I've been in the public and international fair space for over 20 years and so I'm very familiar with a lot of the other schools and programs out there and some are very, very strict on the quant requirements and some are probably even more flexible. But here it at Jackson. We actually do not require you to have.
The stats a Nikon prior to.
And it's obviously helpful if you have that, so it can strengthen your application to have those kinds of courses and that kind of experience.
But it is not a requirement so those who are getting admitted without as much quite experience. Obviously, there's something about your application that we feel like you would be a great benefit to Jackson. You could learn what we teach but also bring something to the table, so anybody who's admitted over the summer before enrolling we actually will send a message recommending that you take a refresher Class A Nikon if you haven't done so already.
So it's it's ideal to take a refresher course before you started again, having something will be to your advantage, but it's not required.
And let's see, there's there's just a lot. I mean, you know, I talk a little bit about the cohort. We probably out of four five hundred applicants would probably admit around 52, ideally and roll around 35 or so, so that means we're very competitive program and it when we get down to the end. It's usually I would say probably half of that we can pull we could.
Automatically admit without any questions whatsoever, but with only a Co order only about 35 that typically means we have some really tough decisions to make so if then comes down to? What is really unique about you and your particular experience so you need to emphasize? What that might be and that's going to be different for everybody and I will say we kind of looked for that to be different. So when we're building our class.
We want to make sure we have People from this background that bedroom. This work experience coming from this sector. Representing different countries and in different voices because it really is not just about what we can teach you and what you're going to get out of this curriculum, but you're going to be in the classroom with this cohort of People an at this job in previous jobs. Everyone definitely says you're probably going to learn more from each other than even you do.
From the faculty so it's really important to us to bring in just a breath of experience and background.
Hum into the class and that's super important to us so you know just think about what what in your background is unique that you can emphasize. Maybe it's where you've worked or maybe you've lived somewhere or you know, whatever the case may be so there's so many examples and I can't even give you 1 example because if you go ahead and look at our BIOS. Hopefully you found those some of you have found those under website. I think I have a link here.
Our new student BIOS and are sticking your BIOS are.
And I'm gonna give you the link shortcut those.

https://jackson.yale.edu/meet-us/grad-students/overview/
You take a peek at some of those buyers. You'll see that People are coming from all over with different backgrounds and experiences. We actually have about 6 Seven piece for returning the square volunteers coming in this, this year and you'll even see among them how they have different backgrounds and varied interests and it's just really, really neat thing to see so.
Let's see I see a couple questions. Let me peek at my CHEAT SHEET. Notes here to make sure I haven't missed anything before I maybe dive into some of your questions. Oh, I didn't. I didn't mention the language requirement that is part of the curriculum that is something that we do require here at Jackson. We do require language proficiency. Prior to graduation so many of you have, maybe your native language is not English.
You can probably easily test out of that and then there's those of you who might have some experience that you'll you'll test apon arrival.
And if you don't meet this sort of intermediate proficiency. You may have to take some language classes, while you're here at Yale. So you would you could take a couple classes a semester to sort of meat to get to the point where you can meet that proficiency before graduation. Lots of People who have already met the proficiency still take language classes and because they want to add to their language experience and that's fine as well pretty sure for classes is.
The Max that you could take mushroom joint degree.
So I did want to make sure I mentioned that and the language offering cereal or my glowingly vast. I remember looking at the course schedule once and thinking? How many were out there and available to you so they only tricky part is they are taught at the undergraduate level, which means the time of the classes or they're usually daily versus grad. Classes maybe a little bit. You know once week twice a week and you know they might be.
Morning, or late afternoon, and so you know, maybe you know in 8:00 AM Chinese class every morning might be a little tough to take but a lot of People have done things like that, so you keep that in mind that we have the language requirement.

I'm interested in the MAS program. How recent do the GRE scores need to be?
Let's see I think touched very generally about things so let me see if I can just dive in maybe will remember more things to talk about when I see some of the questions that you have so don't be shy looks like we have a few here. Let me try to go through these how we doing on time. Oh, good were only wearing it looks like we have some time, OK good. Somebody is interested in the Ms Program.
That is great. The question is about Jerry source and for better or worse. We still do require the jury scores for all of our programs and.
The Jerry scores are good for 5 years, so as long as ETS releases them we will take them.
We have your next question.
Ismaila Whittier
12:29:29 PM
What would you want to see in an applicant’s personal statement? What would make a candidate stand out?
What would you like to see?
Slightly embarrassing, but I think I need to get my reading glasses on all right. That's much, much better alright that helps is asking what would you like to see in Africans personal statement? What would make candidates stand out I touched on that a little bit, but one thing in my long career in. In this graduate admissions career. I will say that I'm amazed at how many People. Forget to tell us why they need us.
So many People say how great they are, which is good. We want to know what you've done in a lot of People like praise us, which is you know which is fine. We know, but we want to know that you're familiar with the program.
But we also want to know what you want to do with this program a lot of People leave that out, so definitely tell us.
Again, you know to tell us exactly what courses you want. But we're such an interdisciplinary program. You actually want to know how you feel. This type of interdisciplinary program will bring you perspective. You know, and give you the skills. You need to go on and and you know focus on a particular area to give you a good background to do the the global affairs type of query that you want to do.
You know what helps what makes you stand out and we have touched on that. It's going to be different for everybody. So just keep that in mind, and think about what your unique experiences and how you feel like you can bring something really unique to the to the classroom here at Yale Jackson.
I hope that answers question let's see what's next.
Joana Felício
12:31:25 PM
In that sense, what makes an application stand out?
We have a pretty similar question. I think I probably closer probably happening when I was talking about that. I apologize for missing. You know what makes an application stand out.
Peris Wambugu
12:31:42 PM
What can I do to qualify for an application waiver?
Oh, good somebody is asking about a fee waiver perfect so something to keep in mind is currently until we officially launches the professional school.
We are part of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. So this year and next year. Maybe the year after do keep in mind that when you are applying you are applying to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. You'll see GSA S that's the acronym that we used.
So the application is the GSA S application and you will choose global affairs as the program that you are applying to so that's important to note. You know for this year and next so the you might see that the GSA S has a November something done line for few waivers, they handle all the fee waiver requests.
We have an agreement that anybody who applies to Jackson. By December, 1st automatically gets a fee waiver just flat out domestic international because this fee waivers through the Graduate School are available to US citizens only but for Jackson up to December 1st. Anybody can apply for a fee waiver. It's it's automatic so it's as simple as that you know after December 1st. Few waivers are no longer available, so do keep that in mind.
Let me have a disclaimer there that there's no advantage.
To you besides saving their fee waiver to applying early, it's it's helpful for you, it's an advantage to you. It's helpful to us to get an idea of what the applicant pool is going to look like we may or may not start reviewing applications. But even if we do. It just because we can't review all hundreds of applications within a brief period of time, so reading is a rolling process admissions is not we have admissions committee meetings.
Applications are the final application deadline is January, 2nd and decisions will go out in the middle of March. So it's not a rolling process, he rejected.
Alright let's see who's X.
Caroline Hayes
12:34:03 PM
Are we given an advisor once admitted to help us with the process of course selection and our individual program direction, or are we able to choose someone to work with?
Alright Caroline is asking.
Are we given an advisor or to work with course section? Yes, actually you are assigned advisors and we also have the director of Student Affairs, who meets individually with everyone once they arrive, so she will sit down with everyone to help them build their curriculum in the mean time you can always check the website too. They they try to put up some sample matrices of things that People have done in the past they're by no means.
A restriction or limitation, they are just samples to give People an idea but you do not have to go this alone. You'll meet with the director student fares. You will meet with the DGS director graduate studies. So there's lots of resources available to you so you don't have to be so overwhelmed through the process. So you will be taking care of a pon arrival so rest assured, with that.
Alex Swanson
12:35:06 PM
Is admission rolling?
Anisha Quadir
12:35:11 PM
What kind of career resources are available to Jackson students? Do you have to have a clear career path in mind after Jackson or just a general sense of what you want to study?
I answered the question about rolling admission, there any and great thank you. Any **** for asking about career resources because that's a huge thing and I wanna make sure we touch on that before we end and we're still good with time, OK, so career resources mentioned Apsia to you earlier as a member of Epsie.
Only African member schools are required to have their own career resources office so the University at maxi member schools can have a crew resources office, but our particular IR program must have some her office and we don't so we had a career office that again meets with every student individually to start planning out what their summer experience what they want their summer experience to look like and what they want to do.
Going forward in their careers. Once there, done much accent, so you know that office.
Not only works with alumni and other networks, but they offer career resources. Maybe it's resume writing workshops. But the director Elizabeth she has a couple of trips and a couple of networking trips a year and now they go to DC and meet with a lum and meet with different organizations and have just this whole cohort goes down and I think there's a trip to London often where there's a networking event there, so there's a lot of networking that happens.
And you know, I mentioned early on, I think sometimes People worry but Jackson's been Jackson fur. Only about 10 years. But just a reminder that Jacksons IR Program spent around for 40 years, so.
Even though So what happens is we have our recent cohorts of alarm but we also have adopted the history of the IR alarm. So you have access not only to the recent Jackson alarm but the 40 year history of the IR limb and you also have access to the entire Yale Network. So I think the alumni directory that have access to as a mom is.
All of the else ends alarm, so that's a huge network to be apart of. But if any of you have paid attention to our coffee chat series that we've had alumni do and there in their hometown. I I was just blown away at how many People wanted to host where they are so we have alumni all over the world. So our career services office really helps with that networking and tries to keep those connections going so that.
That works for the summer experience an for post post grad stuff so.

I think I have a link here of just to help get you a little closer to the career services. I think this link. I did is jobs. After Jackson, which can be this is as you will see that People go and do.
Just for everything so that's it's really kind of neat, you can backtrack and see to what they do during their summer experience, but do keep in mind on that link that I just gave you if you scroll. All the way to the bottom you'll see. It says CFO list of job titles in locations that gives you quite a handful of years samples from even go back to 2011. It looks like so gives you a really good idea of the kinds of things that.
Jackson alarm have done and I should try to find the link to career services office is trying to do a 5 year plan because sometimes you know your first job out of grad school may not be what you want your long term job to be, but I want to take too much time looking for it. But there is a sample of 5 year out for long. But you might find really helpful.
OK, so I hope that answers your question let's see.

What do you think makes the Yale Jackson Institute a top international affairs program? What distinguishes it from other top programs?
We have a question what makes.
Jet what makes you think Jackson is suit Top international affairs program what distinguishes it from Top programs again, having been in this arena for awhile. I would definitely say some of the things we've touched up. It'll make it worse. The Saint Warner size. I think he just this small cohort nature is is just really, really unique and because of that. I feel like you will notice that a lot of these Top tier schools will have these kinds of faculty will have these kinds of.
Cowarts available, but what I've experienced in my short time. Here is that they're not just here to do a 4:30 lecture and then they're gone. They're People who are here and they're interacting and sharing a lounge and sharing a coffee machine and I round the corner and I've run into John Kerry and I run into Howard Dean and you just you know the the ambassadors come to the events in I'm just been so.
Blown away, I'm fascinated by the sort of intimate interaction that we have here so that's something that I found very, very unique and well. We don't there's a school out there that has the mic drop on the financial aid. But, except for them. I think we offer very, very decent financially. It's pretty rare to offer full funding at the Masters level.
And we hope that with us, becoming a professional school that that will even increase more than me offer you know it could be up to half class who received tuition and stipend. If we can do even more or if not all that would be great, so we're looking forward to that in the future but we do, even in the meantime offer really decent funding and then the other opportunities to subsize that funding, then actually become jobs for some People so we've had a lump.

For the CV/resume, some schools want a CV with company descriptions but others just want a standard Resume with no description of the orginization/company. Which one do you prefer?
Then teaching assistants teaching fellows with a senior fellow an because they've built that relationship they've ended up getting jobs with them. After graduation, so those are a couple of the unique things and I hope that helps there's probably more, but I want to be mindful that of time and get to some of the other questions. But I'm happy to touch again on some of this, if we have time. Let's see we have a question about resume.
Ah Christina resume some schools watch TV with company descriptions want standard resume with their descriptions. You know, I think for us if it's.
I think a long company description is not necessary where most of the Admissions Committee in which consists of faculty and administrators are going to make familiar with a lot of places and there's always Google. So you know if you want to do a briefing if you feel like it's not a unique or if it's not if it's not a common sort of organization. Feel free but I wouldn't waste a lot of space necessarily doing that.
It's not so much about the company description. It's helpful for us know if it's a non profit if it's an NGO and what we want to know is what you did, there that's really probably more important to us. That's super helpful location is good, too just for some practical purposes. But yeah, so a nice clean resume is good again. I think don't forget that we do want to know what your extracurriculars and gotten community service and stuff are as well so.

Does a person that already has another Masters degree stand a good or bad chance of getting accepted into Yale or even a chance at getting a scholarship?
Let's see we have a question about.
Does the personality is a master story stand a good chance of getting stuff that's a very good question Paris I would say so again. We're looking at the big picture of each individual applicant. So it's not so much that you have a Masters degree already but is it a Masters degree where.
It is does it make sense to have another degree do we feel like you need our degree. It's more like you need to make us aware that you need a degree such as ours. If we feel like there's going to be some redundancy in that kind of case, then obviously you need to make it very, very clear what you want to get out of jail. Jackson again because of the academic freedom and the interdisciplinary nature.
You already have a Masters degree. We want to make sure that this is going to be that that spot will be worth it for you to take away something different at something unique to go on and do something keep in mind for us. Are we see our Masters degrees with terminal degrees. So we are definitely. We believe that these degrees will enable you with the tools and skills and experience to go out and do do posting do global affairs.
Not a degree that we see is a stepping stone for subsequent degrees. So definitely let us know how you feel. If you do have a master's going to PhD. Some People from the Sciences who wanted to environmental studies and forestry and things like that might have PhD so it may make sense that they need at this point more of a practical professional Masters degree. So it's going to be different for everybody and how you pull together what your prior experience is spent.

Should the letters of recommendations reflect international relations experience, work experience, character reference, or a combination?
Alright let's see time came about 15 minutes question should recommenders.
Reflect international relations farewell experience character reference combination. I read through that, too quickly. But the answer is definitely a combination. So let me read more clearly should letters of recommendations reflect international relations experience work experience character reference or combination. I would say combination or between all 3 like each individual letter doesn't have to mention all of that, but we want to read recommendations from People who know you well.
It's not about big name references. It's about People who know you well and can attest to your commitment to Global Affairs and the global good so that's that's important to us.

I'm not a mid-career professional. In fact, I retired four years ago. Would I still be considered for the MAS?
Um, I'm not a mid career professional.
So I retired 4 years ago would I still be considered for the Ms again. There's there's no age restriction for even RMS. The idea is again this is a professional degree. So we want to know why regardless of who you are where you are your age, whatever it's what do you intend to do with this degree beyond graduation so you need to make a case for that and so if you are on a trajectory of.
Of where you can make this work in Anna retirement. That's certainly a possibility. The MAS to clarify. I don't think I said, this before, isn't even smaller cohort. We usually have about 2:00 to 5:00 students in the MAS cohort so it's a super small covert. I don't think we've decided if we're going to grow that are not yet going forward. When we become a professional school, but at this point, it's super small and they're here to.
Hunker down and get what they need their often People who are sponsored by military. The government who believe they need this degree to the next step in their career, so just keep that in mind.
When I try to get to everybody.

What kind of letters of recommendation do you usually need? Academic recommendations or work-related recommendations?
Uhm I think I already answered the recommendation question, we do want to mix would prefer one at least 1 academic and one professional and the 3rd will be based on what you want to emphasize or weaknesses. You want to have them.

I'm interested in the MAS program. How cohort driven is it and how much interaction with the rest of Jackson do those students get?
Challenge another I think I just answered in the AMA SI didn't touch on the question is about you know, I mentioned the small cohort but.
They are definitely involved. I know when we had our admitted student weekend this past April. Damas students were there and were involved in. It just depends I mean, you can be here at Jackson as regularly and as much as you want to be there's some People who have family and kids who may just go in and out and do their classes but it it. You make it what you want and that's what's sort of cool about it.
The MA students actually have a?
Sort of an outdoor action type thing at the beginning of the semester, so they go on a trip with overnight trip together where there's a lot of fun, but also they do team building and things like that, so there are many opportunities to stay connected as a coat court.

Is local volunteering also considered in our application, if we haven't had the ability to do it abroad?
A local local volunteering also considered in our application. I would say yes, it doesn't have to be international again. All experiences good experience so do keep that in mind keep that in mind with the idea that this is an international program so if you have all domestic experience in all domestic extracurricular. We might want to to convince us more what your global affairs connection is so you just might have a little bit.
More of them You know that's where you need to build out your application. A little bit more to tell us where the global affairs component comes in in your trajectory.

Is there a time to visit the campus and possibly sit in on a class this fall?
Uh let's see some testing if there's a time to visit campus. Yes, hopefully, you can make it to one of our visit days. We do have 3 scheduled check out our events calendar for those there's one in September 1 October 1. November there on campus. There, much more formal. We are going to give our faculty heads up. We don't officially have an open door policy for visiting other times, but we're going to see if we can lean more towards that.
With just Jackson just continuing to grow an interest in Jackson, continuing to grow and we understand that on everybody can visit on a Monday, so and that's where 3 days are this well so you know just stay in touch and if you really can't make it to one of our Mondays, email R. Jackson dot admissions email address and we could see if we can work something out, but worse very, very small stature growing school growing program so we can't meet with everybody individually.
And in the fall will be the director teachers and I'll be on the road recruiting so you know, we're going to give the faculty heads up to make sure that there's no faculty out there say no we don't want anybody in our class and that could be case by case if they're talking about sensitive issues or materials or whatnot, so but it's it's likely a possibility to visit you know just visiting at the time when you could meet with somebody might be a little tricky, we really focus on our admitted student.
Program, which is in April.
So anybody who's admitted will have an opportunity for an even more personalized visit.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the Summer Experience?

Students go just about everywhere. They usually had somewhere internationally and I think People choose different things in different opportunities based on either. Maybe it's their final opportunity to here's the link for you to do something different or to do something that prepares them for the crew that they watched so again our cruise services office will work with you individually.
To help you plan that but a lot of People bring their own networks in and kind of have an idea where they want to work and that's fine as well, and we also have funding available for of the summer experience. If you end up in an unpaid internship. I think it's up to $5000 that you can have during the summer as a resource.

When does the application open?
OK let's see questions or backing up. I want to make sure I get to everybody. Think I answered the local. When does the application open? Don't quote me on this but again were part of the Graduate School burn science? Is there telling us potentially August 15th so it may be by the end of this week. Keep an eye on will probably you know, maybe tweet or something or maybe you know will blast.

Are financial aid decisions released at the same time as admissions decisions?
People in our system and let them know that it's open, but it should be soon within the next week or so.
Uh Caroline is asking yes financially is released within about 24 to 48 hours of admissions decision. So if we could do it at exactly the same time, we will but you can. Rest assured, that if you don't have it right away. It should be available within the next day or 2 our admissions decisions are not based on any sort of financial aid where we're not it's a need blind admissions.
Process but once admissions decisions are made or financially, this, or merit based so that's why we have a very small winded to do that. But you will know usually if not the same time within 24 to 48 hours. Hopefully, that's our goal. Let's see.

Are there ways to get involved with the New Haven community outside of Yale?
By the waist again involved in the New Haven community outside of Yale. Absolutely you know, there's a lot of the peace core volunteer. His work for the local organization called iris. I'm actually going to start doing some mentoring in a local underserved community nearby so there's definitely opportunities to do that.

What would you consider a “red flag” on an application?
So, just keep your eye open and check it out. So we're not that far from New York City. We're not that far from Boston. So I think People get involved in New Haven and the greater greater community. Let's see we're going to run out of time? What would you consider a red flag on an application to tough question, we have time for that when you think about what we've said all along. But you know if you have more than one of the requirements.
Weaker that can be a concern so address any weaknesses are concerned. We're going to probably done with an admissions committee. We're probably gonna notice so definitely some People are concerned about this pattern of the other thing. Just go ahead and address. It don't waste your personal statement space but go ahead and do an additional information document and an address it if you think it's a red flag we might think of the red flag.
So just tell us why you think you know why it happened or what it's background is and how you think it won't shouldn't be a problem in your in your application. Hopefully, that makes sense. Let's see.

I'll be in New York after Thanksgiving, what would be the best time to visit before the fall semester ends?
Someone is asking about visiting New York after Thanksgiving I. I would suggest since we're down to like 2 minutes that you email. the Jackson dot admissions email address about visiting I'm going to be in Asia.
And we get into the Holidays. I don't have in front of me. When the actual classes and I don't want to waste the time to try to find that.

I went through the post-Jackson jobs - most of them seemed to be private sector or domestic government jobs. Am I reading that incorrectly? Or have Jackson students found that the global affairs / IR focus of Jackson is helpful in other areas too (including for example informing their interest / career in domestic policy)?
But you know, we rather you visit if you can when when classes are independent so just keep that in mind go ahead. If you do have a visit day. Just dropping if you do want to visit and you can't visit at our visit day. Just try to drop an email to the Jackson thought admissions that you email address and we'll see if we can work it out. Let's see someone is asking.
Let's see how we doing on time really gonna cut us off of this. I think you have my email address. If this does cut us off but I'll keep trying to plow through these.
I went through the post. Jackson jobs, most didn't seem to private setting must private sector. Domestic our memory than currently have Jackson students found the global affairs iron giant helpful in other areas.
Honey, I would say don't be too deceived by the private sector. But I will say here it at Yale Jackson. I have found on like somebody other schools that commitment to global affairs is more than just you know the NGOs and Whatnot. So we do have probably a broad mix in some of the the private sector. They may be doing public sector warp within the private sector so that's something to keep in mind, but you also have a lot of joint degrees who've done.
Law school and the School of Management so that might skew some of those, 2 but we are definitely open to.
All the sectors and that's something that just that commitment to global good is really. I know it might sound a little cheesy, but it's definitely what the alarm have affirmed is that that's what's really important. You know, I think it's not our main goal to have a current domestic policy. I'm sure some People do just like it's not our main goal to go on and and teach or be a professor, but we usually have a couple of People who might do that as well. Not something we emphasize 'cause That's not what we're about but People can do it, you'll find like.

How many applications to you expect to receive this cycle?
The world just opens up to you here. Let's see we're gonna have like one minute, there any last questions? How many applications do expect to receive this cycle?
And I've been beating the pavement, and trying to get the Nick Jackson. Yale Jackson out there and I would say that one had not that I want to read twice as many I'm hoping that we do get more than that. That's not to your advantage because that would then make the percentage competition. Even more competitive. But you know, we're in that for 500 range. If we can hit 600 and just we just want to get it out there, so People know what Yo Jackson is all about.
Not about numbers for us, but it's about bringing People here, who have that genuine commitment to the global good and who are really need this interdisciplinary type program for their long-term career goals.
And just to be part of this, this amazing cohort in this great little city and just be a part of this team, so I think we're going to get cutoff. If we haven't been already so I better say thank you and goodbye and let's see we still haven't gotten cutoff yet so maybe we do have some seconds but please. Feel free to email me if I've missed something or if I confused you in anyway.

In addition to the required courses, do the students develop a project as result of their Jackson experience? Thank you for your help!
And Oh there is I will see if I get a one question about a project there is no capstone know project that's required but a lot of People do pursue it independently. They may do sort of independent study, or directed directed reading with family members, so you can do it. It's not a requirement so again lots of freedom loss affect flexibility here at Yale and I hope I answered a lot of your questions all of them, ideally, but I know we probably could.
Touch on a lot more. I hope to see maybe some of you on the road. Or maybe I kept us future webinars. There's a handful coffee chats left this summer. If they're in your neighborhood to try to get to one of those RSVP on line and that I think that's good. Thank you again for joining and I hope to see you again and we hope to get your application.
Alright take care thank you.
